Thanks Astro. Listened to it last night but good you have put a grab on the site for others. The more you hear about this topic the more confusing it becomes and the WAFC has obviously made a decision without any real consideration of the ramifications to the other clubs and the WAFL as a whole.
Brett mentions integrity which is sadly lacking at the WAFC/AFL.
I have a feeling the WAFC Committee is running scared as their days might be numbered as well with the 2 AFL clubs wanting their licenses so the WAFC does not OWN them.
My reading is the WAFC wants to stay in good with the AFL so this does not happen so they are bending over backwards to please them at what ever cost to our great comp. Conspiracy theory maybe but food for thought.
I suggest the 7 WAFL clubs could even take out a legal class action against the decision if they wanted to but one step at a time. Maybe the ACCC could even be approached?

Well done to Brett and other presidents who are making a stand on this issue. I am sure many hours are being consumed by these Club Presidents to try and resolve the issue. The WAFL supporters must not be forgotten as they can in the end talks with their feet and make it very embarrassing for the people who made this HASTY decision.

I did read an article that said the WAFL clubs vote for the Commissioner positions and a couple would be very lucky to retain their positions at the next election. Cant seem to find the article now but definately read it somewhere.
Any one have a heads up on this?

Here is an extract from a West Article I did find and these 2 are in the firing line...
There are three commissioners seats available in upcoming elections with Peter Gibbons retiring and Cooper and McHenry seeking new terms. They will run against Stuart Love, Adam Peacock, Elizabeth Re and Judy Self.

Raitt denied a revolt but acknowledged the WAFL's preferred candidates hadn't been chosen.

"There are no personal attacks or vendettas against commissioners at this stage," he said.

"We will have a meeting at some stage prior to the elections and that is where we will get to our short list. That is probably two or three weeks away."
He said a WAFC undertaking to answer many of the issues by tomorrow had headed off a threat to boycott next week's meeting.

In fairness to the WAFL clubs Anchorman the decision had been made that the 2 AFL clubs would not be allowed to put in 2 reserves sides. This was the issue. This was set in concrete. The AFL Clubs ICW the WAFC just changed tack and by Stealth basically got what they wanted in the Alignment with the 2 WAFL clubs. Different plan but basically the same in the end.
The Way the WAFC did it was unethical as well in that at the Presidents meeting they put it on the table as a done thing with little consolation not giving the WAFL presidents any chance to Fight the propopsal. The Meeting from what I heard was a ambush and the WAFL presidents (7 clubs) had no right of reply.
All underhand and autocratic in my book.
I am sure the 7 WAFL CLUBS did not sweep it under the carpet as can be seen by the comments from the Club presidents concern.

Anchorman, how does the competition prosper when the WAFL Clubs whom indentify players from their zones at an early age & help develop their potential to play at League & hopefully advance to AFL level are then if drafted by Eagles/Dockers required to play not for their own team but one aligned to the AFL teams. The current WAFL system has been proficient in producing ready made AFL players & is testimate the work being done at local & WAFL level is working. The Eagles/Dockers seem to trying to emulate the VFL formula which is now falling apart as a number of AFL Clubs return to having their own reserves team. Where does this now leave the original (those that are left)VFA Clubs? Maybe you could ask some of the supporters of those clubs how they felt about their alignments. Their reaction is the same as those of the WAFL diehards whom follow the WAFL & not neccessarily the AFL for a reason. It has its' own uniqueness. No it is not as good a standard as the AFL but it has its own qualities & followers feel part of that team... whether you grew up in the local area or your old man or family have always supported that team. The AFL alignment is not for the benefit of those two clubs, their supporters or the WAFL.... it is for the interest of the Eagles/Dockers only & the integrity of the WAFL as a competition will forever be affected by this takeover.

I just feel for EP supporters who for all intents and purposes will be supporting a team of players assembled from all over the country with little or no loyalty to the club. I guess its all about supporting the club and the jumper but you'd like to follow juniors progress up through the ranks into league level but don't think there'll be a lot of that at EP in the future.

God it gets worse.
