Great day for the Cougars. Our Colts really put on a show against Quinns. With a big turn out from our League and Reserves sides at Wyong, our Colts didn't disappoint starting like a house on fire and had a 4.3 - 0.1 lead at the first break. The run and carry was really impressive. The second stanza saw our guys extend that lead and took a 7.6 - 0.2 lead into the main break. Now going through my write ups all season, one thing our Cubs have been good at is playing a half of footy. So Coach Hicksy really emphasised the fact he wanted the guys to keep their foot on the pedal in the second half. They did. The third quarter saw the Cougars starve the Quinns forwards and really shut them down all over the ground. This was an unbelievable quarter of footy to watch and they took a 14.8 - 1.3 lead into the final change effectively killing the game. A few field adjustments at the final change saw guys in a few different positions, but we still managed to win the quarter despite Quinns getting a couple of goals. Speaking to a few of the Canning guys - I'd have to agree that it was one of the better Colts performances I have ever seen. A repeat of anything similar to that will make it tough for any team. BEST THING - they have really impressed me with their attitude following such a great win and are very much focused on knocking off the big dogs of the LKC in Swan View next week.
I also hung around to watch the Reserves and League games.
In the Reserves, it seemed Canning wanted the win more. They were more desperate and harder at the ball. Warnbro had a couple of really influential players and I can see how they may have been so damaging this season. In the end, the Tiger 2's wanted the win more.
The League game was a cracker as well. In great overhead conditions, the run and carry of both teams was impressive. Although the scoreboard shows it was a close game all day, I felt the Mosquitoes really had the better of the play in the first half only for Canning to hang in there. Although smaller, the Mossie guys looked faster and more skillful. Unfortunately for them, the Tigers made use of the 'premiership quarter' and really shut down Mossie's run and banged on a few unanswered goals taking a lead into the final change. Mossie were unable to get back in front and the Tigers had a well deserved win... Interestingly, 'Davo' from Mossie (dreadlocks) - one of the more influential guys all season spent large portions of the game on the bench or up forward - seemed a waste of such a player..... if there are any Mossie guys on here, can you comment on whether he is injured or was it simply a tactic?
Well done to Canning who put on a good day - but for god's sakes... GET AN EFT MACHINE!!!!! haha
