This is not a deal with just one club, Freo trying to ensure they get enough out of the trade to be able to satisfy Melbourne who are doing the same to be able to satisfy Gold Coast.
Brisbane trading out pick 24 before getting their priority player in has been what’s held up the deal, because pick 32 is to far from the second first round pick they are all chasing to satisfy everyone wants.

Brisbane will need to package picks 5,32 and (41 or 44).

Brisbane only want to give Fremantle 1 first round pick for Neale but won't except a first and second round from Collingwood for Beams (they want more, 2 first round picks). How ironic
Fremantle holding up all the trades?????????????

Brisbane are saying that if Freo took pick 5 for Neale they could swap it for 2 later first round picks. Adelaide have picks 8, 13, 16 and 21 and might look at trading say picks 8 and 16 or 8 and 21 for Freo's pick 5. I'm not sure they would but that's the position Brissy are taking apparently. Brisbane don't have another pick until 32 so that won't work for Freo unless they get something for Beams which they can then fold into the Neale offer.

Brisbane will get pick 18 from Collingwood for Beams and give 5 & 18 to Freo. If Brisbane think it's too much Freo can give pick 41 or 44 in return. Picks 5 & 18 should be enough to satisfy Melbourne.

I don't think Lobb is worth pick 11. Pick 23 seems fair to me. If Brisbane get pick 18 for Beams and then ontrade that and pick 5 to Freo, I'd still looking to do a deal with the crows for picks 8 and 16.

Or could Freo trade picks 5, 11 and 30 (3836 points value) to the Crows for picks 8, 13, 16, 21 (4708 points value).

And probably fair enough AM. I seem to recall Fremantle signed Justin Longmuir on a 5 year deal (probably longest known contracts in those days) and I think he retired 2 years early due to dodgy knees. I'd be comfortable with a 5 year deal for Jesse. In any case contracts are becoming a bit of a joke these days. They seem to favour one of the parties only, that is the player. Clubs can't get out of it but the player can walk at anytime.

Would this please all teams involved. Pick 8, 13 for pick 5 is probably a bit high and pick 8, 16 is probably more realistic. However with Adelaide wanting to make sure they can get the SA talent on offer and by doing this trade will see them have a pick before their rivals in Port they just might decide to do it.

You would think that Fremantle's first round pick next year will likely be somewhere between 1-10. So they trade for Hogan would be pick 13 and probably a future top 10 pick.

Melbourne

Get: Pick 13, 2019 Round One Pick (FREMANTLE)

Give: Jesse Hogan

Fremantle

Get: Jesse Hogan, Rory Lobb, Picks 8, 20, 22, 2019 Round One Pick (COLLINGWOOD)

Give: Lachie Neale, Picks 11, 23, 2019 Round One Pick

Brisbane

Get: Lachie Neale, Pick 18

Give: Dayne Beams, Pick 5

Collingwood

Get: Dayne Beams

Give: Pick 18, 2019 Round One Pick

GWS

Get: Pick 23

Give: Rory Lobb

WCE

Get: Tim Kelly

Give: Picks 20, 22

Geelong

Get: Pick 11

Give: Tim Kelly

Adelaide

Get: Pick 5

Give: Picks 8, 13

This is probably the best explanation of what's going to potentially go down today that I have read so far.

It looks like Freo will get picks 6 and 19 off Brissy for Neale which they'll then use to get Hogan and Lobb respectively. But then again......who knows?

Didn't Melbourne want pick 5?
