Lyon is the leading wicket tacker in the world this year, has played less tests than those around him and he will not lose his spot this summer.

Australia will not play 4 quicks unless one of them is M Marsh as an all rounder, based on wickets in Victoria and NSW they will likely need 2 spinners which will make selections interesting

Paine is the best batsman out of all the keepers in this country - he hasn't been used purely as a keeper for Tassie this year which is probably why people raised eyebrows at his selection
Not sure about Mitchell Marsh myself , he's had his chances but I'm not a selector

You got it right AM, if it wasn't for a Dirk Nannes thunderbolt 7 years ago, Payne would be nearing 100 tests as keeper and Wade and Neville would not have played a test for Australia.

He is the current T20 keeper, and I reckon he will keep in the one dayers coming up

Maxwell can not be considered as the all rounder, its not only Smith that doesn't rate his bowling, he only bowled 15 overs for Victoria out of the 194 Victoria bowled at WA in the past few days. Cam white bowled a similar amount of overs. I have concerns about Marsh bowling, and I don't think Stoines has had enough cricket recently to be ready to play for Australia.

here is a thought, leave some grass on the wicket, make it fast and juicy and allow the quicks to do their job. The last few years the WACA has been a road, that's a sure fire way to lose test status if you turn up pitches that cant get results unless the captains are creative with their declarations

Who was it that said "if you win the toss think about whether you'll bat or bowl, then bat"? Was that S Waugh?

Some guy in Adelaide was telling me that skull was on the MMM radio commentary. Not sure if thats a digital station or if it is available in Perth. Anyway he was listening to it on one of those radio commentary headphones that you can buy outside the ground and he was saying that Skull is still very funny. Also Phil Tufnell was on with him and he is a comedian as well. I will be seeing if I can get this station during the Perth test.
In other news, Mitch Marsh has been added to the squad for the Perth test. If Mitch plays, does anyone know if it would be the first time that the Marshes have played in the same test match?

it is from the MCC playbook -- a very old saying among cricketers. Ian Chappell got if from his grand father V Y Richardson. Similarly, my own grand father used to come out wiht such things when I was little. It is perfect sense too.

Can't understand any logic that Paine was brought in so 4 quick's can be chosen, what's the difference between 3 or 4 to a keeper?

Maybe the head coaches son will get a game, I think it is more likely that another Marsh boy gets another recall.

000 How were they lucky!!!! They bowled the Poms out twice in the game. Make over a hundred more runs than the Poms!!!!! Lucky
Far out some people have funny ideas.

Well we will see whether Mitch Marsh gets a game at the WACA and how far out some people have funny ideas.
This game could have gone various ways and the tactical decisions regarding the follow on/or not show that perhaps Australia was exposed when they needn't have been.
Sure they won, don't kid yourself this one did not have the potential to blow up in their face though. If the same tactical brilliance is applied as a rule of thumb against others then losses are assured. They won't be as forgiving as the Poms.

Mike, I had a quick look at Mitch Marsh's career and he and Shaun have played seven Tests together - three against India and one against each of New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka and the West Indies.
So if Mitch gets the call-up against the To and Froms at the WACA, he would've been in the same team as Shaun against six different opponents.
