Maybe it is actually you who needs to get a grip on the current reality of the WAFL competition BC if you think your club has not been at the forefront of the absolute decimation of the WAFL along with the alignment then you are in la la land!
The fact that the WAFC are giving away 10,000s of free tickets just to make a half decent number for the last ever WAFL GF at Subiaco Oval between yes Subiaco vs an Aligned side yet again should be a wake up call if ever I have seen one after they had already reduced the ticket price of the GF to less than half what you had to pay to watch for the SD vs WP Elimination Final.

Swan & BH, it's not up to the SFC to change things, like all other clubs we operate within the rules set by the WAFC, yes all clubs look to bend the rules as has been shown by certain clubs being caught out with salary cap breaches or pushing the points envelope, you would expect your club to look for every loophole that's possible to gain an edge. Like Freo & Peel, they operate within the flawed rules setup by the WAFC, you cant blame them for taking advantage of that situation, don't look for altruism from footy clubs!! It's the WAFC that needs lobbying and after hearing from that doyen of football administrators Gavin Taylor it now seems inevitable that along with a strong review of the alignment in particular finals qualification, the WAFC will look at some serious equalization methods to help the lower clubs improve their performance and slow down the top clubs. Subi's deal ends after tomorrow, that's the first step in equalization but will take some time to wash through, remember Subi were second to EPFC in profits last year, so it will be interesting to see where SFC sits regarding profits over the next 5 years, especially with clubs like WP, Perth & CL taking advantage of their new taxpayer funded facilities and hopefully your club will be able to benefit from a future redevelopment of Basso and the 2 Freo clubs when Freo oval is redeveloped. These projects are fundamental to the future financial security of the WAFL clubs.

Bazza why were old east such a dominant force for so long? Did they have any advantages over the rest? Ark no doubt its an advantage for us, along with the other factors you mentioned contributing to our successful period. But what about our long period of disadvantage and mediocracy?? The wafc are doing nothing now and as Senior Seagull mentioned previously the wafl hierarchy did nothing back then either! It was the other 7 clubs who eventually pilled the pressure on them to allow us to get a liquor license to become EQUAL and in line with what the other 7 clubs had since the beginning. That being said I remember when the alignment came in Scowey said he will spend our money so that someone will be able to at least compete with these morons. Maybe we should have saved our $. Think about this, if we didn't knock off the ferals in the last qualifying game, with the amount of afl listed players the eagles were planning to inject into them for the finals, I would suggest last weeks prelim would have been Subi vs ferals and this weeks game would have probably been a western derby gf...

DG: people at other clubs don't understand the extent to which Subi was dis-advantaged once the other clubs gainned a social cub and sign rights around the ground. We made one grand final in that time. The luck we have had with our advantages in the last thirty years has been a case of good karma.

In relation the alignment, remember there has been two alignments in our history. At the start of the first alignment, we had not won a flag for fifteen years -- even with our advantages -- which was not good enough. During the first alignment itself, we were carved up by the Royals on a number of occassions, defeats which helped motivate the club to recruit players and coaches, includding German. Given this background of the first alignment, we had to recruit again to match EP and Peel it is as simple as that.

The job of the club is to win; therefore losing tomorrow will be a failure, albeit in successful in many respects.

SS I am not sure where your information is coming on but it is my understanding that the Basso redevelopment is if not dead it is at this moment receiving the last rites. Claremont spent 3 years in the wilderness at the Showgrounds. From all that has been seen from the Eagles in its entire history Perth will be treated as a squatter (WITH NO RIGHTS) at Lathlain Park Oval.

Personally I can't see the WAFL it any form similar to what we have in the year 2020.

Yep...I had some council prospect vigorously opposed to the development canvassing me at my front door last week. Politefully thanked her for her stance before telling her she was wasting her time with me.

Considering this was all a State Govt initiative re more utilising the areas close to public transport hubs eg Success Hill & Bassendean train station for high density urban development I hope they come in over the top of the local council and the Greenie flogs who have probably only been living in gods own country for 2 minutes!
