LTRFTP my experience is that it is the prefered option of G Walton for there not to be an open and frank discussion oregarding the state of the WAFL. Further, that he would prefer the situation where his VIEWS and OPINIONS are not proferred on this forum and as a consequence no debate no scrutiny is possible to support or oppose those views.
One would be hard pressed to find any positives regarding the way the WAFL has been run by the WAFC commission. There are plenty of examples that come readily to mind where the WAFC has shown little regard to the consequences and impact on the WAFL competition of their decisions.
For example: the host club alignment; the ongoing saga over the West Perth jumpers. etc. etc. Even simple things like getting the finals' fixtures correct on their website is indicative of little regard for the WAFL competition. I haven't been back on the WAFL site (why would you bother) to check whether the fixture for the reserves' game has been corrected.
Whilst I accept that mistakes and typos occur; what sort of proof checking is done? Is it reasonable to think that a Monday 5 pm fixture for a semi-final could be correct? The previous week we were supposed to play Souths in the reserves' final.
Whilst I am not privy to the process to determining fixturing of finals and I certainly don't know whether Swans or West Perth had any input into the determination of where and when they play their final, in my opinion it is not reasonable to schedule a final's match at 5pm on a Sunday evening. To do show indicates a scant regard for the players and supporters of the teams. I would suspect a significant number of players in that match would be required to work on the Monday and it is not unreasonable to think that a number of those players would be required to start work early on the Monday morning.
Given the circumstances I am sure there were alternatives which would have allowed the players a more reasonable recovery time prior to working on the Monday. Not all matches need to be played at the same ground as the league finals. If one was cynical one would think that the only reason to play three games at the one venue was to try to ensure that the crowd figure for that venue was reasonable.
