Are the new players of lesser ability than the previous bunch? We must remember that being young does not necessarily equate with defeat. John Todd won a Sandover at 17, as you would know. Players have made test centuries and so on Archie Jackson comes to mind)

MO I have expressed my views about Subi -- restrict the players they can recruit depending on their position on the ladder. We lost half a team too, and would be struggling if such a rule was in place. Irrespective, I am for such a change for the sake of the competition. You have also made suggestions about providing financial help to clubs, from memory. Guess what? You and I are the only people whom have made suggestions on here about the Subiaco problem. The others just complain But if action is taken against Subiaco, at the very least, they will need to keep Kalg., in their zone as they would struggle to compete. Perth and East Perth have had the problem for the past forty years. In short, whatever is done about Subiaco or the alignments in the future, there will be an unevenness in the competition.

Getting back to SD, before the season I had them competing for the five. Did you? Have you changed your mind at all?

I think they are certainly just as talented this year Arkroyal. One of the differences in my opinion between the start of 2014 and this year is that last year because the expectations of the 'experts' were so low, many teams may have gone into those early games v Swans a little bit complacent and they found out very quickly that they were better than they had been portrayed. That element of surprise has been removed this year and I think other clubs are treating them with more respect and therefore the results haven't been as dazzling.

back on to the game - virtually a game of kick to kick from one end to the other with both sides having a lot of possesions for little scoreboard impact.
East Freo probably played through the middle more with more run and the Swans defence did well to limit a lot of those attacks, Young took some good marks and young Perry looks a top prospect.
Swans skill level was poor again, 5-6 goals conceded from skill errors coming out of the backline and bad passing through the middle.
effort was great again but we have no forward targets, Cary spent his forward time running around the wing and did better in defence.
Houghton provided great run after half time but he was too was up the ground and we wont beat top sides bombing in to Jukes, Donovan and Banfield who all played well but cant be the main targets.
not sold on Burham or Coniglio, not sure why they play.
best was Jukes and his marking was superb, Elari tried his heart out as normal and the backs worked hard again.
thought Blakley should have been in the best, another who works hard in every contest.
reserves showed some great talent - Dylan Nelson and Wilson are 2 who should be in the league team and big Ansey can play at either end.
Turner off half back is improving, hopefully they all work hard over the next pre-season and become regular players next year as we need some skill in the team.

Mike -- thanks ; I am with you. The performances, particularly early on last season, did actually catch my imagination so I am actually interested. In addition, we need Swans and EF about the five to keep the alignment clubs at bay.

At the moment I think that due to Faulkner's inability to hit a target on most occasions, by hand or foot, he should go back to the ressies where he can perhaps show better disposal skills. Rudy Riddoch should be due for a recall into the league team based on his last couple of performances in the ressies.

catch 22 with Faulkner - one of our best ball-winners but disposal is ordinary.
I dont see anyone in the reserves who can get 25 quality touches and win clearances though, Faulkner does hunt in well and get some hard footy.
Dean is the best clearance player from the reserves and he isnt at Faulkner's level yet as he doesnt have the fitness to link up the play or the body strength to smash in all day under the packs like Faulkner and Elari.
I have never seen someone get smashed as much as Elari and keep getting up, he is a gutsy little fella.

I thought Faulkners in and under work ystday was superb v a midfield with big bodies, in our best 3 or 4 ystday IMO
Beneath the Southern cross i stand, on Bassendean Oval, can in hand, Swan Districts, you Farkin Beauty!

I also believe that Burnham although better ystady goes to ground to easy along with Coniglio, learn to keep their feet a bit better and they will stay in the contest for longer

SD there are two components at play with Faulkner. Absolutely no-one, including myself, should question his ability to do the hard work and get the ball. However, and it is a big however, how confident is anyone that in disposing of the ball how effective will it be? Unfortunately, from my perspective I haven't seen any discernible improvement in his disposal of the ball in recent games.
