What a match up, would love to see that. Best full back in the WAFL against a talented AFL Princess who is just running around trying to get some match fitness and not get injured.

It would be nice if we could actually play WART at even close to full strength for once but alas we will have a few out injured again this week!

Then once the 80s came along we genuinely feared Swans, who were on their day the complete team. Our games either at Perth Oval or Bassendean had massive crowds. It was a fixture that was regularly very well attended. The prelim a few years ago was testament to that too, given todays standards.

I remember one year in the 80s when Swans were gifted a few kicks that ended up winning them the game at Perth Oval, East Perth prez Mal Atwell stormed the umpires rooms after the game and gave them a verbal spray for the ages. As a result he was booked by all the umps and faced something like 15-20 charges.

good times :P

Jars I fondly remember those games in the early/mid 80's vs a proper EP side ...who could ever forget the game were we were a mile behind at Perth Oval and a Leon Baker Phil Narkle inspired Swans flooded home in the last qtr to get the choccies in front of a packed house on an Easter or Anzac Day game in maybe 82 or 83?

Unfortunately Simmo has a fractured thumb and will be out 4-12 weeks depending on whether surgery is required, finds out tomorrow. He is really hoping he can get the 5 games required to 150 and life membership..he is a MASSIVE loss :(

I do remember that game BH. I also remember the first ever WAFL game played outside of the Perth metro area when EP played SD at Hands Oval in Bunbury. It was a very historic day and we all made the trek down there for it. After that I always thought a WAFL team based there would be successful. But I think they would be more likely to have an AFL team there these days (ala Geelong) before a WAFL team now. Their domestic league is very popular & they wouldn't jeopardise it unless it was for an AFL contract.

I have been to a few Bunbury Bulldogs games over the years as I did have a connection with someone down there. He has since passed away but it is a great club, with wonderful clubroom/bar facilities.

Ditto mate - I try to get down to Bunbury at least once a year to catch a game , we have history down there family-wise with an old Bakery that used to be operating
Exception is that I love the South Bunbury Hands Oval great atmosphere - hard to fathom why we have that lunacy in Mandurah instead

(sorry to hear about the mate in Bunbury also champion!)

I believe Kyle Anderson is the best full back in the league. He would be a regular AFL defender most likely at Sydney if not for injury concerns.

Darling would be too quick and mobile for Rumble who matches up well on big log type full forwards. Hard to beat in a 1on 1 strength battle. Twomey would be a good match up, would run off Darling all day.
