Appears that Dayle might be on the path to playing for Swan Districts again after reading today's West article about him stealing car, fuel and running off to Geraldton. Unfortunately it will only ever be for the Swan District's Wooroloo Prison Farm team. I strongly implore our club not to let this happen once he ends up in prison which is where he is headed. The guy has spat in the face with his recent criminal behaviour of all at SD who tried to help him in the past, both fellow players, coaching staff and club officials. He does not deserve to wear the black & white stripes again in any form of the game.
One would think that having a young child might have been the catalyst for him turning things around but clearly he doesn't give a shit about his family and is on a one way path to spending the bulk of his life behind bars. The meth habit he claims to have picked up in Melbourne at Hawthorn (complete BS by the way, had been an issue long before then) is a one way street to a life behind bars or getting a bullet to the head. Make no mistake Dayle, you are the one responsible for your actions, there is nobody else to blame, these are your decisions and your decisions alone. By stealing cars, fuel, doing burglaries etc you are directly threatening the safety of the WA community so don't expect any sympathy from us. Time to grow up kid before you do irreparable damage to not only yourself but more importantly your family and god forbid some innocents amongst the WA community. You once told me you were going to make a difference mate...the time to prove it is now!!!

Some words of wisdom from SD Football Manager Phil Smart:

Former Fremantle recruiting boss Phil Smart re-ignited the AFL's simmering race row with bold claims that clubs were unfairly discounting indigenous draft hopefuls because of off-field issues.

In a blunt attack, Smart said AFL clubs did not have a good handle on recruiting indigenous players and described modern-day recruiting strategies as sterile, after only three indigenous players were drafted on Thursday night.

"If they're not prepared to take a risk with some of these young talented indigenous players because Swan Districts has dropped Dayle Garlett a couple of times for being late to training, I think it is appalling,'' Smart said.

"The photo that was in the West Australian - of him having a drink and a cigarette on the back page of the paper on the day of the draft was appalling.

Asked on 3AW whether it was a race-based issue, Smart said: "I have no doubt it is. None at all.''

Smart said clubs were guilty of over-analysing indigenous players' backgrounds without appropriate resources.

"I don't really think a lot of the clubs have really got a good handle on some of the indigenous players,'' he said.

Smart said he believed clubs were more open to drafting non-indigenous players with off-field troubles than indigenous prospects with similar issues.

Swans football operations boss and former Fremantle recruiter Phil Smart said Garlett had responded to missing out on last year's draft

"He handled himself really well on and off the field since being pretty severely knocked around mentally with being overlooked last year," Smart said.

"He's been very responsible to his football and his off-field development and he's definitely ready for his shot at the AFL now, if a club will give him his chance. He will be a very, very good AFL player.

and the latest from Phil:
Swans football manager Phil Smart said the club would not make a commitment until they had met their former player and would then "make a call from there".

Too true.........

he had issues well before his time at hawthorn. The things Swans did a few years ago to help Dayle went well beyond normal player welfare and that is why they wont take him back as he spat in their faces. On a silver platter and pissed away.
