Great innings by Marsh last night to lead the Scorchers to their highest ever score. Wonder how things might have turned out for him had he not put his fist through that wall at the WACA a few months ago. Would probably be in India right now but good that he is showing some of his potential and keeping his team well and truly in the race for finals.
After watching Glen Maxwell slaughter the Renegade bowlers on Friday night I also wondered how he could have been left out of the ODI team whilst guys like Turner and Agar who have had modest seasons at best are selected. Have always wondered whether Maxwells style doesn't fit in with Langers ethos.

Some incredible hitting by M.Marsh last night Mike, what was it 8 sixes or similar including 3 in the last over alone?
If he hadnt have had that brain fade in the SS game earlier in the season I reckon he would have played in the NZ Test Series at the expense of Wade.

And he would of filled his boots in one or two of those Paki/NZ tests too BH....might be one of those look back moments and think if only....but saying that there have been plenty of those with the Marsh clan over the years....

Gee has there ever been a worse title defence in any sport than what the Renegades have produced this year? 9 losses in a row now and it is hard to see where a win is coming from. Shaun Marsh looks very frustrated when he is batting and there is no real conviction in their play. Even a guy like Dan Christian who is normally bursting with confidence looks totally out of sorts. Tough first coaching gig for Maxy Klinger, hope they can get a win for his sake at least.

Last year's Grand Final winners are now 0-8.Falling away badly V Adelaide Striker's.
Poor Maxy Klinger who took over as the Renegades coach 3 weeks before the start of BBL9.Andrew McDonald joining the Australian ODI coaches group.
S Marsh has been ok.Finch now in India was average.Christian regarded one of the best T20 players on the planet. Can't handle good spin bowling. Also some terrible captaincy today selecting the wrong death bowlers. Giving up of 40 runs in the last 15 balls.
This is how they have lost all 8 games with a couple of bad overs.ßomething that looks like it's no longer in the Scorchers game.

WA boys Stoinis (147*) & Cartwright (59) playing for the Melbourne Stars just put on an opening partnership of 207 the highest in the BBL's history.
Stoinis 147* included 13 fours & 8 sixes and is the highest ever BBL score.
Was similar in power to that 150 odd not out against NZ at Eden Park in an ODI a few of years back.

Here is a squad of WA players who are in BBL teams other than the Scorchers

Josh Phillipe (WK)
D'arcy Short
Shaun Marsh
Marcus Harris
Jon Wells
Marcus Stoinis
Hilton Cartwright
Nathan Coulter- Nile
Lance Morris
David Moody
Liam O'Connor

12th Clint Hinchcliffe

Very top heavy batting side with only 4 specialist bowlers but they would have Stoinis, Cartwright and Short able to share the 5th bowler role and given the power of that batting line up they would be defending 180 - 200 more often than not.

I heard a comment a couple of weeks ago from Ricky Ponting, I think it was who when talking about the number of ex-Scorchers now at other Franchises said:

"It was harder to get blood out of a stone than to get a player from the Scorchers."

Not so Ricky. As Mike's team above shows, it is quite easy. Especially when a player tells the Scorcher's Board that he wants a contract longer than 1 year or more money.

What is hard though is getting players from other Franchises to join the Scorchers....Thanks to Justin Langer.

BTW: Is Jonno Wells still playing red ball cricket in Perth?

Yes plays premier league for Perth CC. This year has scored 215 runs in 7 innings at 35 with one century.

Another ex Tasmanian in Travis Birt has had a more successful season for Wanneroo with 436 runs at an average of 54

I guess that line up also confirms what I have thought about the overall standard of the BBL Mike in that it is a pretty ordinary competition in the overall scheme of things.
The bowling has been atrocious to be honest and the fact a Pakistani grade cricketer like Haris Rauf can dominate probably says a lot.
The only top class Internationals the competition can attract are the recently retired South Africans like DeVilliers & Steyn, those from the lesser known cricketing countries of Afghanistan & Nepal & second rate Poms, the rest of the squads are made up from our stocks outside our best dozen or so players who are on Test & ODI duties.
