I see on the Subi website that 11 Subi girls will line up for their respective AFLW sides in the first round. Not a bad effort, not sure how it compares with other clubs like Swans and EF who also have very strong ladies teams.

ToOl...I couldn't agree more..I'd rather watch under 14s than that rubbish but there was an interesting article in the media today that notwithstanding the very ordinary footy standard and low scores, young girls are signing up to play footy in droves and imo that's a good thing. I'm certainly no fan of sheila's footy and rather they put the money into grass roots state comps like the WAFL but at least it's having a positive affect on women's participation rates.

Lots of people seem to give a shit about AFLW - not many are middle aged men - but there is plenty support. When was the last time a WAFL H&A game got 15,000 spectators?
Yes its free entry but if free entry was the key to getting bigger spectator numbers the WAFL should have opened the match day gates years ago.
The Perth Ammos had 50% growth in female playing numbers last year and is tracking the same for the upcoming season. Junior female participation has also exploded.
Why does the AFLW get so much attention? What is it competing against? It’s the only footy on, the WAFL is competing for press time and gets swamped by the AFL. Always will do as a second tier competition.

BC how is the WAFL grass roots football? It’s a semiprofessional state league competition...Junior club footy and the ammos are grassroots footy.

Fair point TiT but I think it's pretty obvious that when I said WAFL I also meant everything that falls under the senior comp including junior clubs in WAFL districts.

BC I thought the same way as you until my grand daughter started to really take an interest, as do many of her school mates, my daughter is in Adelaide and she's a Crows, ladies member, so I'm giving it a bit more attention plus as mentioned the explosion in girls participation is a great thing. In 5 years or so, we will see a far different standard than now and it's improving year by year. Shame the powers that be with their massive budgets cant find more dollars for a WAFL comp that started it all in this state and where so many AFL players come from, there is enough money for both but the AFL want the state leagues to wither on the vine and become under age comps purely to supply the AFL beast.

Agreed SS, couldn’t stand the garbage at first but it is bringing more people into the game and the standard is definitely getting better just need to change the uniforms to something like this and all will be good

hahaha...I remember that DG...a women's grid iron comp from a few years ago and according to the peanut who promoted it, it was supposed to draw 40,000 spectators a game...did it even get off the ground?

The Lingerie League it was called from memory BC & DG, it was pretty big in the USA a few years back not sure if it is still going?!
