Yes its free entry but if free entry was the key to getting bigger spectator numbers the WAFL should have opened the match day gates years ago.
The Perth Ammos had 50% growth in female playing numbers last year and is tracking the same for the upcoming season. Junior female participation has also exploded.
Why does the AFLW get so much attention? What is it competing against? It’s the only footy on, the WAFL is competing for press time and gets swamped by the AFL. Always will do as a second tier competition.

BC how is the WAFL grass roots football? It’s a semiprofessional state league competition...Junior club footy and the ammos are grassroots footy.

If there is plenty of interest in it and deserving of all the media attention WHY is it free entry?
And there's plenty of female numbers participating in netball but that doesn't seem to get bugger all media attention.

I'd like to see how much interest and what attendances would look like if the AFLW was in direct competition with the AFL every year like the WAFL is...sfa I'd say.

And the reason the WAFL clubs don’t throw open the gates and provide free entry is nearly all of them would go broke quickly, simple as that. They are not 100% financially underwritten by the AFL like the women’s teams are.

TOO, yes there’s plenty of participation in Netball but as a winter sport it is also competing for media attention against AFL and also struggling like the WAFL to get traction.

In regards to WAFL clubs having to collect gate takings to stay financially viable I think you’re over estimating the income clubs derive directly from the gate.
Average WAFL crowds are approx 1500? Players, match day officials, club staff and U/16s all get free entry. Sponsors, their guests and home members get tickets included as part of sponsorship/membership package and doesn’t add to the gate revenue.
Of paying gate entries you have opposition supporters, players friends and family? A number of these get student or seniors concession - mainly seniors given the supporter base demographic.
Paying gate entries, members etc get an included footy budget on entry reducing profit
How much profit are clubs actually taking directly from the gate - SFA

BC, the AFLW would get bugger all media and much smaller crowds if it was played in winter and competing against the AFL - but they’ve chosen to play the AFLW in the traditional footy off- season, after the BBL, summers biggest sporting draw card has finished and in doing so have found space with no competition to call their own and are seeing the benefits from it.

I’m sure all of the AFL clubs with AFLW teams enjoy the fact that they are engaging new and old supporters in the off-season and many are able to utilise their training venues for matches and bring in some extra revenue from spectators via merchandise, food and beverage sales even if a gate income doesn’t exist.

Be interested to see what extra revenue South Freo and Perth generate when AFLW games are played at Freo and Lathlain Ovals?

Incorrect, home members do not automatically get ground entry, only if they’ve chosen that membership category, and I reckon the majority of members would not choose the entry to every home game category nowadays, I don’t. I would be surprised if not at least 70% of people are still paying ground entry.

Incorrect ToOl...according to your own JT in the West gate receipts account for less than 5 % of club revenue.

Correct but all Claremont memberships do include some level of included ground entry
Gold $180 - All Home games
Silver $90 - 2 Home games
Bronze $50 - First Home game
Country $60 - 2 Home games

No chance 70% of people are paying ground entry each week. There’d be 300+ free tickets given to players, coaches, other team officials, umpires and club staff each game day. That means only 200 members, sponsors and invited guests with included entry turn up at each home game.

Think it would be closer to 40% mainly opposition supporters and tight arses who don’t by a gold membership and go to more than 2 home games each year :P
