I see Sneakers has pushed through the redevelopment laws to help out all his big property donors, meaning local residents will be castigated to the sidelines on what go up in their communities, it will be anything goes for the big end of town to blight the landscape.

You only have to take a quick drive around and look at some of the abominations on Canning and Striling Hwy that have gone up or are going, the one in East Freo on the former George Tavern site, the huge monstrosity on the Sunseekers Hotel site on Stirling Hwy and the eye sore going up in Subi on the markets site, Millions to be made for the developers as the for future high rise ghettos.

Lol as opposed to the eye sores including a tattoo parlour that used to be the abomination on Canning Hwy Mt Pleasant across the road from HJ’s. Applecross and Mt Pleasant slowly leaving the 70’s behind. What a dump that strip of shops was.

You sound like a classic western suburbs NIMBY my friend. I’d like to see a lot more public housing in the western suburbs to “spread the load”.

DD, the problem with this warm fuzzy woke idea that it's good to have public housing in the expensive suburbs makes very little sense. The idea of public housing is to house those who, for whatever reason, cannot access the private market, so it is essential to ensure that the  money invested in public housing results in the maximum number of dwellings being produced so more people/families get a roof over their heads.  For the same money, you can build 50 dwellings in a mid to low cost area compared to less than half that amount in one of the leafy expensive western suburbs due to the cost of the land. Public housing should be located on or near transport hubs so that people have easy access to public transport.
The planning philosophy generally is that main transport arteries have higher density developments, with the densities getting lower the further you get from those highways and rail lines. This has been done successfully in your clubs area along Albany and Gt Eastern highways and further out in the Canning council areas.

There are still a few old slum blocks of flats in Mosman Park would they be public housing? Probably built in the 50's when Mosman Park was an industrial area. Along Wellington St.

Used to be called Battle street.  The name was changed to Wellington street because there was so much trouble there.
But I am sure that the Barney Rubble and previous Lieberal governments would never collude with big business. Never ever do that. 😎😎😎

This has got nothing to do with public housing, I can assure you of that, developers like Blackburn and Co wont be building cheapos for the likes of yourself to live in, no profit in that, this is about cramming as much in on as little land as possible for maximum profit, yeah sure the strip of shops you are talking about might have been down, but talk about NIMBYS - what's wrong with a tattoo shop in the neighborhood  Those Mt Pleasant blocks are in not a bad location I guess, but they look crap and the traffic around there is already a nightmare. Luxury apartments one decade. druggie slums the next.

Yeah back when they thought sticking people in high rise flats was a great idea, then all the social problems came with it and most places demolished them, wasnt there some shit heap in Bentley that got the wrecking ball.

Steady on ol geezer not everyone was as lucky to get an armchair ride like you. Anyway It’s a good thing you appreciate someone who lives in a more affordable part of Perth can provide a platform for you to share your wisdom.

Isn’t that better than the blight on modern society living on the streets? Everyone needs a roof over their heads and a bathroom, kitchen and a comfortable place to sleep and feel safe? It’s called home. That block of flats in Bentley I think was built in the 80’s to accommodate refo’s when they first arrive. Should  never have knocked it down. Renovate not the wrecking ball. I’m guessing you have never experienced hardship and the anxiety that comes with not knowing how you are going to pay the rent and still afford to eat. I’ve been there and it wasn’t easy to have what I have now but I’m very proud of what I have and really have empathy for those doing it tough to be able to afford rent and a large mortgage.

They should chop up Lathlain Park, wack in some Vic Park style multi level flats, and fill the place up, the area would suit it and it would be a hell of a lot more productive than what's been produced at the joint since 1977.
