A/man and I quote "I am sure no one will dispute that his decision to send Walters back to Swans was a master stroke. Walters is now one of the star small forwards in the competition, a player feared by other clubs." A complete vindication by A/man of why we so stridently oppose the host club alignment. Thank you a/man. Without wanting to completely digress from your topic I think it perhaps gives a lie to what some people are suggesting may happen toward the end of Lyon's tenure at Freo. Also, perhaps Swans can take some credit for Neale's development as well. Which is also not to downplay the obvious work that Neale has put into developing his game. |

I agree that it was also hard work by Swans that helped turn Michael Walters around.
Back to your original comment Anchorman and I think that something Ross Lyon was criticised for and rightly so was the lack of young players that he brought through at St Kilda. He still gets criticised for it today. However under Ross's tenure at the Dockers we have see Michael Walters and Lachie Neal establish themselves in the senior team. Nick Suban has improved dramatically for me as well as Tendai Mzungu. Add to that players such as Thomas Sheridan, Hayden Crozier, Matt Taberber, Jack Hannath, Cameron Sutcliffe and even Tanner Smith. Jacob Ballard is one that has had a pretty good year at Peel and is one that I will be looking out for over the preseason. |

Success yes, but you also have to have one eye on the future. I think this is an area that Ross has improved on while at the Dockers. Mind you it could also be that he has better support staff around him at Fremantle than what he may have had at St Kilda. |

Fundamentally, unequivocally and unambiguously A/man it is my belief that if the host club alignment had been in place at that time Walters would have walked away and would no longer be a part of the Freo team. |

Yep all good points, I noticed Tanner Smith has put on some considerable size, pity he can't stay on the park. We really need some key forwards and defenders going forward.
I was surprised Morabito wasn't picked for Brisbane. I would have thought he would be a monty with Fyfe and Barlow out and give him two games going into September. I reckon he could be a real weapon in the finals, but maybe Ross is wrapping him in cotton wool with a longer term view to next year? Get on your bike.

Lyon wasn't responsible for recruiting at St Kilda, that was John Beveridge's job while he was there. Just like he's not responsible for recruiting at Freo now.
What he was responsible for at St Kilda was bringing in a heap of off-cuts from other clubs to top up the list at the expense of blooding youngsters. But the record shows that very few of those youngsters denied a pathway to league during Lyon's reign at St Kilda went on to great things anywhere else with the exception maybe of Tom Lynch. Thus he probably got the call on their abilities right. |

If Ross Lyon had of won a premiership with St Kilda no one would be questioning his list management at the Saints. End of story. They missed out by one kick, a rushed behind to be exact would have been enough.

I think you're delusional 42. Either these guys want to play AFL footy or they don't and in my humble opinion it wouldn't have made any difference at all or very little if Walters went back to Swans or the Chunder. I guess we'll never know but i think Swans did a terrfic job at the time but who's to say the chunder couldn't have done likewise if the alignment was in place back then? |

I don't think I am delusional at all. Let's have a look at last weekend's match "East Perth" versus Peel. How many AFL aligned players were in the respective two teams? What was the margin? With respect to your hypothetical about chunder doing the same: in my opinion, Walters would have walked away if he had been forced to play for Peel. No reasonable person can think that the damage inflicted on the WAFL and its clubs by the wanton greed of the two WA domiciled AFL clubs from the host club alignment can be justified. |
