LaH et al I hope you take this the right way. Here is my suggestion:

West Perth change their name to Joondalup on the basis that that is where they are located. Of course, that then means that Subiaco has to change their name to West Perth to match their location. Similarly, that would mean the team formerly known as East Perth has to change their name to West Perth as well to match their location. Win, win, win. Unquote

Hey love it mate.. Very Funny. Dont forget Perth would have to change to Lathain Demons etc etc.. :)

Its a storm in a teacup and not worth worrying about..as I said in my previous post re Trading name and Club name,Logo etc it happens in the AFL as well.
e.g Here is a good example of it happening in the AFL
Full name Footscray Football Club Inc. (Trading as Western Bulldogs Football Club) Where Footscray trades under the name Western Bulldogs. So they are using their TRADING name as their club name.

Now lets just concentrate of beating the Subiaco Lions (or is it Maroons) Then again it could be the WP Lions or Leederville Lions(Thats got a ring to it)
Then it could be Subiaco Cardinals? Who are co hosts at Leederville with EP who are not actually in EP now so that must be wrong. :(
Have a good weekend and enjoy your footy :cheer:

Make sure they get WPFC printed on the back of the jumper, as the Dogs have FFC. Also they are planning on a return to the Footscray name... They are forming a VFL club Footscray Bulldogs as of next year to play at Whitten Oval.

Mike.

WPFC was domiciled in the locality of Leederville for 78 years before moving to Joondalup. Based on the name change theory why wasn't the club called Leederville.

St Kilda moved to Moorabin many years ago but retained their name???

When Hawthorn moved out of that locality they didn't change their name???

South Adelaide moved to a new locality some 30+ kms away but they retained their name???

Changing a name doesn't make any difference.

I recall seeing tee shirts with the message West Perth forever, Joondalup never when this rubbish started many years ago. I wonder if we will see this again tomorrow at the game?

As a West Perth traditionalist I was appalled at the various decisions made over the years. When you remove tradition of any sort from a club with a hundred years of tradition it strips the club of what it stands for in my eyes.

Hated it when they changed from the Cardinals to the Falcons.

Hated it when they agreed to the move from the sacred grounds of Leederville.

Hated it when they mucked around with our jumper design from time to time.

I also heard some rumblings a few years ago that they were even considering changing the name of the F & B Breckler Medal. Poor old Alex Breckler would have flipped over in his grave.

What most on the Board failed to appreciate then and now is that suburban connections to footy clubs had all but disappeared by the mid 80's. It was all about the VFL.

To move from Leederviile to attract a demographic in Joondalup assumed that they would actually attract an increasing supporter base. It was always and will always be a myth.

WAFL will always be a traditional base competition. It is passed on from Father (or mother) to other family members or by association with the players, helpers and committee.

I reckon I could count on one hand the number of WAFL people who are attracted to and become a member of a WAFL club because they live in the immediate area of the home ground.

well said Dempsey. i feel every word and it is all spot on.

we (east perth)will never get over losing Perth Oval. and the alignment next year just tops it all off. its a constant battle to retain any traditions these days.

tradition enhances respect. you cant buy it at a corner store. the wafl has it in droves, yet it appears to not be required in any of their calculations.

if west perth went back to leederville, their crowds would almost double in my opinion. i have no doubt about that. i think wp crowds have never really taken off simply because a large part of their supporter base has felt alianated at joondalup. it just does not have a w.perth feel. thats my view anyway.

WP are not moving anywhere anytime soon, the success they have had since moving to Joondalup has been amazing, played in 5 grand finals & won 3. The government is putting in a heap of coin to assist in facilities at the club, once the new clubrooms get up & running then it will be an amazing sporting complex & the whole northern corridor will want to be part of it. The future of the WPFC looks very promising.
