Your right of course Grump.. We are officially the JOONDALUP FALCONS Trading as the West Perth Football club.. That name change came around years ago. So the club has ever right to use West Perth Football club on all correspondence (as they do including Year book and newsletters, Website etc etc)

So it is a play on words but all above board. You would think the Council would be happy with that.. We are the Joondalup Falcons in games and WP as a reg company Inc.

Now anybody could do it.. If Indian Pacific still owned the Eagles they could call them the WC EAGLES but being registered as a company called Indian Pacific they could use the Indian Pacific as the name of the club if that makes sense

Commentators could call us Joondalup,Falcons or West Perth when calling a game obviously they stick with the WP due to tradition etc

So A falcon is our Logo
Joondalup is our offical team name
West Perth is our trading name

Cant see any problem with a clubs Trading name being used (albeit unofficial)
The club still uses Joondalup Falcons on its banners in one way or another

Maybe I am wrong but that is the way I see it..

Here is a good example of it happening in the AFL
Full name Footscray Football Club Inc. (Trading as Western Bulldogs Football Club) Where Footscray trades under the name Western Bulldogs. So they are using their TRADING name as their club name.

Cardy, I know you boys are traditionalists but your legal entity is West Perth Football Club Inc. Therefore your trading name is/or should be Joondalup Falcons.

It's been 20 years, I think as a Club you need to embrace your area so that you identify with your clients.

Not stirring just an opinion. My understanding is you have been battling financially for 20 years, embrace the future and hopefully flourish.

You definitely need your own rooms. Events West charges a like wounded bull for food and drink.

Do you make anything out of the catering & do you have your own bar upsrairs or is that all Events West??
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It's the size of the fight in the dog.

This is a load of rubbish and should be treated as such.

The Joondalup City Council should keep their nose out of the C;ub's business.

The last time it was tried, it nearly killed off the Club with many members and very importantly sponsors pulling their dollars.

We should all write to the Joondalup City Council and tell them what we think of their threat.

Collingwood have the most supporters in the AFL don't they? I'm assuming they don't all live in the suburb of Collingwood.

FFS changing the name won't bring in more supporters. It never does. Ask The Kangaroos or is it North Melbourne!

Your right Jimmy and La Hincha the backlash would be incredible. Many long standing WPFC members would pull the pin and quite honestly that is all they really have at the moment that is why I think Brett is treading lightly. Knowing him he will only do what is best for the club. One thing is for certain there will NOT be a huge influx of Joondalup people joining because of a name change..

Exactly mate.

I would implore the West Perth members not to approve a name change. It won't bring in more supporters. The most iconic sporting clubs of the world do not change their names. They know it's all about how they market themselves.

At time I wonder about the WP supporters Ben but most probably the problem with most clubs :( I kicked off a thread on our game and the usual posters come up if any.
Last week for me just tried it again but  Not the fault of OZFOOTY as this is a great site with lots of extra's.

Feel free to put a post on there if you like. I got more response on the EF thread last week when I just posted there..

The silent majority remains Silent - you know exactly what I mean

LaH et al I hope you take this the right way. Here is my suggestion:

West Perth change their name to Joondalup on the basis that that is where they are located. Of course, that then means that Subiaco has to change their name to West Perth to match their location. Similarly, that would mean the team formerly known as East Perth has to change their name to West Perth as well to match their location. Win, win, win.
