South Fremantle have succeeded in their own search for another key forward, with de-listed Port Adelaide tall Mason Shaw committing to the club until the end of 2017.


Shaw made the commitment to return to his original club after being overlooked in last Friday’s rookie draft.

South Fremantle have also signed Carlton discard Blaine Johnson and de-listed West Coast utility player Dylan Main, while captain Ryan Cook has committed for another three years.

South Fremantle football manager David Depane said Shaw and Johnson would give the club more avenues to goal.

“There is a real feeling that we underachieved last season and the drive is there from the group to improve across all areas,” Depane said.

Now for that ruckman and another quality mid.

Can't believe Shaw couldn't get another AFL gig......touch wood he is over his injury problems and delivers on his junior potential.....Johnson along with D'Olio will provide some great small forward options up front as well as Saunders too.....Jones is no loss for you boys he is old at 32 TBH......you guys have plenty of experience in Hams, Hockey and Cook in your midfield already......surely with Dragovich, Schloithe et al around and about SF don't need another mid, develop what you have.....thought Branchi and Higgins will cover your ruck duties......tall defender....but isn't ex Freo player Vandeluer a SF boy?....him an Wilson would surely fill your key position slots?

How can this be......Bazza say's you have no money for recruiting!!!!!

why spend all your dosh on one elder statesman.... when you know in the pipeline, you could use that money to recruit 3 youngsters with longevity....makes sense to me..... 2 goal kicking forwards and a young mid....sounds like money frugally well spent for the now and future!

Bazza is very quiet atm be interesting to get his thoughts when he finally returns.

Agree Freez very happy with those gains and they should all have immediate impact in 2016. I hope that young Shaw is completley over those injury concerns he could potentially be a 50 plus goal kicker for us minimum IF he regains his confidence and form prior to being drafted.
I just thought that the extra ruckman could be added support to Branchi and Higgins fair ask to expect only two ruckman to carry the bulk of the work over the whole season. Higgins might be a good back up as a tall swinging forward or back?
You might be right with the mid, it might mean we develop from within and look at Panizza who I rate as a good prospect and hopefully get more from Martinez and Kelly who have threatened to go to another level in recent years but have not done so.
All up not a bad result....

No mention of Jones,he stated that SF had no money for recruiting any players.

This is what he said word for word "As i warned some months ago - we would not have to cash to lure players".

Bazzas statement still stands.

All those lads are local boys which is good that they have come back but in terms of transfer fees I would assume that didn't coast SF anything.

You still have to pay them and match/better any other deals offered to them from other WAFL clubs,just because they are returning as was Jones they still cost you,they dont play for free.
Bazza'a statement was they couldnt lure any players because of "no cash".
