Lyon was asked about why Mitchell wasn't clamped down more, and Lyon seemed very uncomfortable answering it whilst smiling continuously. He said something along the lines of that's what Mitchell likes so it wouldn't have done much anyway. It was a baffling retort and contradicts everything Lyon has stood for in previous encounters against Hawthorn. If he thought that, why all these years has he relentlessly had Mitchell tagged to within an inch of his life?

Either way Crowley hadn't played any form of football for 350 days. That pressure last night I guarantee would have seen Crowley totally spent by quarter time, and Freo would have lost by more. The Crowley thing was over done rubbish and he would have been a huge liability, anyone with any idea would have realised that.

A complete waste of a year for Freo. They were damn lucky against Sydney too. But given the rest they had they should have over run hawthorn. They failed miserably in that department I'm afraid.

I dont think they choked, i just think the bottom end talent at Freo is average, and gets found out against the better teams. Crowley, hadnt palyed for a year, so he would not have been match fit, let alone in a high pressure finals match.
The biggest challenge for Ross i reckon is he has coached defensively for ever, i wonder if he can adapt a more attacking style. It will show next year when it comes down to picking say a rookie with flair over a rookie "soldier" ( who is solid BUT......).
Hard to change after 10 years coaching one way ( woosha malthouse come to mind)

Choke or not, they were not and will not be good enough.

Last night just showed that their list and their selections through out the season did nothing to put them in a position to win.

Their backline was carrying more injuries than even the weagles and they had little confidence in their next level to step up, no experience, duffy and pearce should have played more games so that if the geriatrics, johnson et al broke down once again then there as a next level to fill in!

The forward line relies on Sonny being able kick more that he should have to! Pavlich a very good footballer but is carrying injuries, Mayne has been cruelled by something but certainly not mr centermetres, as for ballantyne he is injured or his lack of credible ability has come home to roost.

Fyfe is injured, mundy is past his prime, pearce is at best a b- player and that is another issue for them, their spread of talent is to wide, too many c graders where clearly hawthorn go down to a b-.

Interesting listening to James Clement before the game where he pretty foretold the outcome and storyline before the game.

Whately did make a comment about lyon bailing to another club due to the dorkers list now being past it, and frankly it would not be a surprise to see him and essendon!

One of the worst things i hate about people in this state, it always has to be the West vs the rest SO PETTY, no wonder we are hated on the Eastern seaboard

Yeah the funny thing is that if Hawthorn play West Coast in the GF next week, my guess is that many neutral Victorians will be in the Eagles corner. I think it would be the lesser of two evils as far as many are concerned

People seem to forget Freo got beaten by a champion team on the verge of doing a 3 peat, has reached its 4th GF on the trot and is up there with that Hawks 80's team in terms of achievements....no disgrace in losing to a team like the one Hawthorn has now.....WCE woke them from their finals slumber a few weeks back, which now who ever plays them next week in the GF will regret big time.

saying that the game did highlight Pav's expiry date, D Pearce is a turn over king, Mzungu is his apprentice, Taberner hasnt improved from last year, Mayne kicks for goal like a defender and Ballntyne is a numpty and a hot head.......Lyon is gonna do to Freo what he did to St Kilda......leave them when the window has well n truly closed....which will be by the end of 2016......
