The WAAFL and the MFL already get WAFC subsidies. They are both cashed up so that the MFL clubs pay no fees except for their insurance and the WAAFL clubs even got a rebate a while back. Not happy with any money going towards clubs that pay players, under or over the table.
Where I would like to see any bonus spent is on umpiring – statewide.
Have a camp in Perth where the country umpires are flown in and accommodated and can go for a few days preseason to do training and accreditation. The old APB centre in Forrestfield or St Catherine’s at UWA around the March labor day would suit. Mike Ball was good at organising this stuff.
Start an advertising program on UMPIRE RESPECT and crowd behaviour towards umpires directed at all levels from juniors to AFL.
The second one would be to do some form of blitz advertising around February and March to increase player, umpire and volunteer participation in football. Give out a football pack with a carry bag, T-shirt, WAFL tickets to their local club and the WAFL Grand Final with a food and drink voucher and other promotions.
