Played for Subiaco in 1984-85-86.Came through there Colts system. So was at the club for at least 5 years.Played for WA in 1986 and in 1988 in the Bicentennial Carnival. All state games where played in Adelaide.
Not sure why he was overlooked by the Eagles original squad in 87.Was there a cap on the amount of players recruited from each Wafl club.

Played 32 games for Melbourne 1987-89.Best remembered for his 1987 finals appearances. Stared in Melbournes big wins in the elimination and first semi finals wins.Against North Melbourne and Sydney. And also in the preliminary final. When Jim Stynes ran over the mark on the final siren.Gary Buckinara got 15m penalty and won the match for the Hawks.
Then WD just disappeared from footy and altogether in 1989.Suffering from injuries and has no footy history post 1989.Sadly we didn't see the best of Warren Dean.Had one of the best kicks I've ever seen.May of been to lightly framed for VFL\àFL key position player.

Injured his knee at Melbourne and was poorly
managed, so much so was forced to play when knee was not ready and destroyed it. Then bumped off the list. Attempted a comeback at Subi which did not work. For a long time owned and operated the Carbanup roadhouse at Vasse, I believe recently sold it.

Wasn't he the son of one of the Deans that played for Subi in the 1960s? I remember him sealing a game for S. with a mighty torpedo at Bassendean one day in 1985 or 1986.

Ark, typically good discussion topic, but I think Stan Nowotny would be humbled to be included in that list of outstanding CHFs.

SH can't find out about Warren's father. But Warren's son Lucas won a scholarship to play college football Gridiron. For San Antonio in Texas as a Punter. So he must kick like his father.I also have a memory of a 60m torpedo punt to win a game at Basso.85 or 86.Kicking to the city end of Bazzo.

SH -- thanks, they were definitely related, possibly uncles. In a way Bunton did not do him any favours putting him in the hardest position on the ground given his light frame.

I re-call his last game for the Lions -- the poor fellow had trouble kicking the ball he was so badly injurred.

Craig Starcevich was a good player

bh, gtr, sh, now that we are thinking about centre half forwards whom had played for SD and S, how would you compare Ken Marshall and Rod Brown as players?

My memory of the Subi Deans from the late 50s early 60s was of two contrasting players.

Frank was a nuggety, back pocket player, while Keith was a ruckman. Both were good players.

More remember Rod Brown as a tough old school defender.Ken Marshall was a gun and would of been a star in modern day AFL.

John George is another. Classy chf played a big part in our 88 flag. I remember Deano roosting a torp through from practically centre wing at Subi. Didn't WC pick him up from Melbourne in hope his knee would come good? Never played again though. Pretty sure one of his sons made his debut with our colts a few weeks ago from playing school footy in Bunbury

DG, that would be John Georgiades, shortish for a CHF, had a massive '88 finals campaign kicked bags of goals, classy left footer, went on to play some VFL with the Doggies. Saw that Dean torp, went 80m if it went and inch.

My memory from back then AR is Wayne Moose Henwood was more of a defender than a CHF in his SF days.

Wayne Henwood didn't last long in South colours it was only 1 and a bit seasons of senior footy before being signed by South Melbourne
played forward initially but did switch around a bit - he was a readymade footballer at a young age strapping lad
