Question regarding the AFL draft, maybe BH or Grump being closely involved might know the answer. My understanding is that with the new WAFC run Colts, the clubs get nothing for any lads drafted directly from the colts. What happens if the WAFL clubs bring up their likely draftees into the ressies or league after the national u/18's are done, does that make them "club property" and then subject to receiving compensation from the drafting AFL club? If so it would encourage clubs to give their young potential draftees a run in the seniors in the 2nd half of the season. otherwise, as has been raised on the EF thread, the clubs will look at boys who are less likely to be drafted as they are the ones who will be at the club next season as there is no financial or list benefit to the clubs to give the potential draftees a run.

SS all the money from draftees goes to the WAFC and is dispersed as part of the annual amount. The clubs get narda as they now believe that the AFL pays for all the development from 14's on and they pretty well do!

SS im not sure what happens with draft monies now for mature agers like a Tim Kelly was for example, but any Colts aged boys taken in the draft now the WAFL clubs dont get a cent anymore.

Was just wondering what the situation was for someone like Jack Mayo who missed out on the main draft, rookie draft and pre-season draft, then played in the ressies and league so was no longer in the Colts system. Also someone like Deluca who has previously been on a an AFL list then back 1.5 seasons in WAFL.

Pretty sure Subi got a payout for De Luca's original drafting to Freo SS...even if the clubs still got something, you only get the draft fee once I would of thought.....Subi got nothing when Menagola went from Subi to Geelong....as EF got the draft fee when he went to Hawthorn first time round ...Pretty sure SD got nothing for Krakouer going to Collingwood, as SF would of gotten the draft fee when he went to Richmond...BH is that true?

If wafl clubs want money they have to convince players to sign contracts that don’t have an out’ clause if the player is drafted. No club is ever going to stand in a players way but it would be good if say subi had a contract with de Luca that didn’t have an automatic release if he is drafted. When he gets drafted subi goes fine but Carlton have to buy them out.

Contracts need to be endorsed by the WAFC, will never happen.
