Southerner: yep agree 100 per cent; it was manageable despite the numbers whom left. For example, by 1986, Subi would have almost certainly lost Lamb and Keene, but it would not have been the end of the world.

DG: that is true, most of our players would have gone in 87 or 88; but the competition still would have had the up and coming SF and CL sides to sustain it -- Mckenna, Sumich and so on

I thought maybe east perth may have done it 1978 but we didn't lose to subi or swans.Interesting stat was the last round where 24,000 saw the west perth v east perth game at Leederville and
23,900 saw the other three games. Not sure if any other home and away full round would would have one game with more attendees then the other three.

Thought I had another example Chaddy but not quite

Round 6 1980

Swans V West Perth - Bassendean 22,350

Other 3 games 10, 857 + 7420 + 5613 = 23, 890

Phenomenal that over 46, 000 people attended WAFL games that Saturday afternoon[/quote]

found this

rd 10 2009
ef v sf - ef oval 11,051

other 3 games 2,006 + 2,367 + 3,996 = 8,369

Great work Strono. That was the Foundation day derby on the holiday monday. I was there and have not seen a WAFL oval that packed for many a long year prior to that or since then. It was like a throwback to the 70's and 80's. Great game too as I remember. DId South snatch it at the end by a couple of points?

Last round of 1993 over 20,000 watched WP's last game at Leederville whilst the other three games attracted just over 6,000 combined
