AR & Southy the Vics love to rewrite history that the vfl was the top flourishing league in the 80s but the truth is virtually all of their clubs were bankrupt, their grounds outside of the mcg & vfl park were shit tips and half of the players in the vfl were not from Vic...so much for being the supposed football nursery!

Victorian clubs had no morals & even less ethics in their theft of players from interstate clubs - even taking them before they got to league clubs.
but when it came to clearing them back home there were always problems & stonewalls

there was also a gate takings agreement which saw the WA club receive near half the gate but Vicco clubs whinged

something went wrong in WA football from the early 1980s on, even in Westside football, one could read crap on the need for a national competition. How was taking at least 40 players from the state going to be good for the league/

remember that from 1979 to 1985 we saw some massive interstate recruiting sprees by the Victorian clubs with full unrestricted backing from the VFL
many SANFL & WANFL clubs tried to stop them but only a few rejected the overt offers during seasons
Entering the VFL just opened the floodgates
