Can anyone explain how an umpire can have so little regard for a player's welfare that he would choose to throw the ball up with a player flat on his back within 5-10 metres of where he chose to throw the ball up as happened in the Reserves' game between Souths and Swans on Saturday? And for the record it was a South's player on the ground.

In my days as a trainer I would tell the umpire to hold play until we could move the player and I have to say 99% of the time they obliged. I have noticed that trainers are little more than hydration coordinators and perhaps don't have the necessary understanding to engage the umpires. They rely on Dr's and Physio's to do the injury triage.

42....gotta keep the game moving mate....none of this stop start rubbish please.....anyway on a serious note surely a few SF or SD players could of raised some concern and tell the ump.....everyone has a voice....what was stopping them from telling the ump?
