I have been catching up with some statistics from rounds 1 - 5 of the WAFL, given that I have been away for a few weeks and these are the major things that caught my eye. Sorry this is a bit self indulgant but I thought these stats may be of interest to some people who look at this site

1. Of the 20 games so far, 5 of them have been won by margins of over 80 points, 3 of these defeats were inflicted by Subiaco.
2. Souths have the "honour" of being the only team to run Subiaco to within less than 10 goals ( 58 points).
3. By contrast 7 of the 20 games have been won by less than 20 points which I think qualifies as a close game. Interestingly East Fremantle have been involved in 3 of these games for 1 win and 2 losses. This indicates that they were very competitive in rounds 1 -3 but the wheels have really fallen off in the last 2 weeks.
4. The average winning margin so far is 47 points but this figure has been inflated by Subiacos complete domination of the competition.
5. The highest attendance so far this year according to the WAFL site is the Good Friday game at Leederville which attracted 3142. The lowest was 1160 in yesterdays alignment derby. Averages out at around 1900 per game.
6. Shane Nelson, Cody Leggett and Aaron Black are the three leading possession winners in the competition to this stage
7. Two Subiaco players, Brad Stevenson and Rhys Waters are leading the goalkicking which is not surprising given that the team have kicked truck loads of goals.
8. Nick Kommer and Hayden Sloithe have recieved the most frees with 12 so far
9. Marlon Pickett has conceded the most free kicks by some distance with 16.
10. Finally Brock Higgins leads the hit out count closely followed by Jono Griffin.

Hopefully the teams that have been on the wrong end of some blowouts in the last few weeks can get back on track and chalk up some wins. Particularly Perth, East Fremantle and Claremont. More now than ever the WAFL needs a finals race which goes down to the wire.

Call me a cynic but when I checked last week the fixtures on the wafl.com.au site there were no attendance figures for any of the rounds.

Further when I asked BC what was the attendance for the Thursday game he said around 800. The figure quoted on the WAFL site for that game is 2,342.

Attendances are on the WAFL site and mine - apart from EP v WP game where no figure has been published. Here is the link to season by season averages

2018 so far waflfootyfacts.net/season/idx.php?Season=2018

Another interesting fact is that all clubs sitting in the top 5 all have 3 wins or more each....whilst the other four have one solitary win each.....looks like a battle galore for possies 1 to 5 and possies 9 to6.....two separate comps within one.....really can't see Peel pushing further with their current list....will be a good test of Cam's "coaching prowess" if he can get Peel into the finals TBH LOL...saying that Webster had surprised a lot of folk with where he has EP at present....most punters would of had Peel top 5 and EP outside the 5, five weeks ago.....

42...I was quoting the figure in the paper. I didn't actually go to the game v Claremont on the Thursday night as I had something else on and recorded it on tv but it didn't look anything like 2,000 to me as the crowd was very sparse over on the outer side.

BC, I've noticed when I go to LO for night games the vast majority of people stick to the western side where the stands are, very few go to the outter.

yes...you're right mate....it does get very dark and cold over there but even still...with a crowd of 2300 as quoted you'd think there'd be a few diehards over there. plus, you've got to question a Thursday night game which is telecast on tv between two of the smaller support bases would attract over 2300 people. I could be wrong but it does sound a bit on the high side.

Apparently the figures are in the paper? So I'm told.
The match you're referring has seen too many people say had a very poor attendance, so not sure where the 2,000 + figure came from?

And a quick expansion on Freezes comment.
A 2 game gap has now opened between the top 5 and the rest. Average percentage of teams 1 to 5 being 141%.
Whereas the average percentage for the remaining teams is only 70.8%.
