Starting in yesterday's west there is an entertaining three part series celebrating our epic win over the big v thirty years ago, worth a look.

Didn’t realise Peake was that old, but mind you he still had it!

Hardie, Simpson medallist? Still gives me a laugh after 30 years.

Yeah what a game mate.

Subi and East Frem players kicked 16 of the 22 goals that day

I was also at this game and all of the other State Of Origin games played on a Tuesday arvo at Subi Oval. The MacNish mark & celebration of an incredible goal by Buckenara from deep in the electronic scoreboard pocket were my lasting memories of the match.
Why wasnt there a 30 year special from the 83 & 84 State Of Origin games which were also outstanding games (if not better) than 86? G.Ablett announcing himself as a footballer with a lazy 8 goals from the wing in 84 still not good enough to secure a win for the Pricks I mean Vics! :)

The old man took me out of school to 84, 85, 86. We were thrashed in 85. I agree with you bh 83 and 84 were just as special. I have a vivid memory of how different the atmosphere was on a tuesday arvo, alot blokes in work clobber or suits and ties. And seeing all eight teams colours being worn rather than the usual two, fabulous memories

anch: just shows you how much over coaching has changed the game; I am sure the assistant coaches get paid well over a 100 thousand dollars to change the position of witches hats at trainning, and tell players to 'guard space' because 'guard space' kicks 100 goals a season instead of marking their opponent.

Yeah same with me TOO all of those games were some of the best games of football I have ever seen with the elite of the day going head to head. I also loved the 81 SOO game were we gave the Vics a bit of pantsing with one of the best line ups WA have ever assembled together and Warren Ralph might have won the Simpson kicking a bagful on the hapless Vic custodian! :)

I've still got my program from the original 77 state of origin. So much of that is burnt into my brain. Not like recent stuff...
