...that WA has now beaten SA, NEAFL, Vic and Tas in interstate football in recent games. That makes us No 1.

We also have 127 players in the AFL compared to SA's 109. Of course Vic have more with their population and probably always will.

It's a shame many West Australians - the public and the media - can't see that the competition is worth following and is actually producing talent well above it's weight.

Sometimes the good things about the WAFL are brushed aside by those in the media looking for an agenda.

Their agenda should be to dismantle the host club situation, not criticize a comp where AFL listed players get the best workout and opposition of any who compete in state leagues.

Add to that the fact that Subiaco and Claremont have produced the past 2 Brownlow medalists

One would hope the so called football commission start supporting the Wafl. Realise that may be asking too much.

I would also hope to see that our AFL clubs soon understand that AFL listed players improve far quicker if they are given important roles at all 9 WAFL clubs.

Too often we are seeing talented players just making up the numbers at Peel and EP. Minor roles, no pressure.

At a regular WAFL club, they become key players and are given roles of responsibility and are expected to not just learn, but contribute strongly towards a win. Possibly more so in the case of locally produced players who are pitted alongside their peers from colts and dev squad and would be playing in front of demanding longterm fans, coaches, board members. Winning is the name of the game and that has to be better for the player surely.

It's time to bite the bullet. For the good of the comp but also the players themselves. The current situation isn't working for either.

I remember two young blokes - Mundy and crowley being allocated to Subi years ago. Neither were superstars when they first arrived and at times it was tough for them because Germo ran them hard...and they responded and prospered and became 200 game AFL players. Ask them the value of being given responsible roles in front of demanding local fans and a tough coach, who wanted to win games as well as improve footballers.

There is little interest in state footy because it has little relevance. Why not make it relevant? It can be done by making state footy a competition. One way to do this is to have six states in two divisions. Vic, SA, WA in division 1. QldNT, NSWACT, Tas in division 2. Each team plays 2 games, one at home and 1 away. Team on top of division 1 is named Australian state league champions. Division 2 winners take the place of third-placed Division 1 team each year. Could something like this help to re-create a bit of passion in state footy?

Big State footy games have lost it , sad to say.
Seem to remember the Foxtel Cup being a good idea. But again the (so called) footy fans stayed away in droves. Big business was sinking money into it for no return, and now that's gone too! Sad to say but State Footy doesn't mean much now.

Yep, Foxtel were good to pump at fair bit of cash into that tear, sadly it never took hold so went under.

Its all about club footy now , the national comp killed state footy.

Not a bad idea CM.

You could have a WA v Vic at home to decide the champion state...I'm sure that would attract a good crowd surely???
