Do you like my headline? No? OK then. Following the scores of the West Perth v Claremont game this afternoon, looks like it was a corker of a game and a crucial win to the Falcons. Their season is now well and truly back on track. I would be interested to find out if any West Perth or Tigers fans on Ozfooty made the trek to Kulin today and what your impressions were of the game, the ground and the town.

Kulin joins a long list of regional centres that have hosted a WAFL game. I think that these matches are very worthwhile and given the dwindling attendances in Perth the program could be expanded so that every club plays one home game in its country zone every year. That is as long as:
1. The Oval is up to WAFL standard
2. Members get plenty of notice as to where the game is being played so they can make arrangements to attend.

Also the transport has to be reliable as the Swans boys discovered when their bus broke down last year at Mt Barker and they had to be rescued by the Tiger bus. Better than the wheels falling off the bus I suppose which seems to be the case for Swans so far this year :silly:

Have heard the attendance for the game is said to be 750. Given the population of Kulin is approx. 500 residents, that seems a great attendance.
I too think the Wafl Country Programme to be a good initiative and hopefully it continues. At least the so called commission got something right. There has been many good rural fixtures over the years. Wafl clubs continuing a connection with their regions is important. Clearly, a significant amount of talent comes from country WA and the Wafl clubs must keep engaging with their communities. It also gives the country people a chance to get off the couch and go see a Wafl match.

All understood.
And posts read fellas.

It does raise an interesting question though. Say for the sake of the exercise, we assume the Kulin Shire has a population of 3000 residents? The attendance resolves to 25% of the shires population came to see the match.
Wouldn't it be fantastic to have 25% of the metro population turn up each week at the metro grounds :woohoo:
Instead of the current minus under 1 percent

I did a bit of research on country fixtures and I will stand to be corrected by the guru Ric from WA footy facts but by my reckoning the match at Kulin was the 67th WAFL game played in regional areas since matches were first planned in the country. I am assuming that the first game was in Round 1 1984 when East Perth defeated Swan Districts in Bunbury.

Since then there have been 66 games played at a total of 36 separate towns. Geraldton has hosted 8 matches with Bunbury and Kalgoorlie (both 6) and Albany (4). Dampier and Esperance have both hosted 3 games and there are 30 other who have 2 or 1 games.

As for each club’s record in country games Subiaco have the most wins.
Subiaco have played 18, won 14, lost 4
Claremont are next (19, 13, 6)
East Perth (16, 9, 6, 1 draw)
West Perth (13, 8, 5)
East Fremantle (14, 8, 6)
South Fremantle (11, 5, 6)
Peel (11, 4, 7)
Perth (13, 3,10)
And…….. look away now Swans fans
Swans have played 19 games in Regional areas from Mt Barker in the south to Kununurra in the north. They have only won 2 of these games, lost 16 and drawn 1. The boys obviously don’t like the fresh country air!

But not now.
