And unfortunate to say, the whole stupid circle will continue to go around and the once great Wafl will still be stuffed. :(

Well said cardy.

I strongly support 10,000 seats set aside for General Public, not everyone wants to pay a bloody membership and get locked in, there are 1000s just like in melbourne who want to go along to a few select games a year, this will give them a chance.

yep the WACA will be great , it will be a real WAFL home I can see it working well, a great loal sports venue for WAFL and Shield Cricket.

I also have great memories of it as a footy venue, very pleasant place to watch footy.

With 20,000 there on a WAFL GF day will be far better than Subi.

And in my opinion better that Subiaco & the MCG, and Ive seen both. They will play weekly neutral games there just like they did at Subi in the 80's. They will also play regular double headers, that is the way it will go. Two games for the price of One will be a huge selling point, and it may attract regular attendances up around 4,500-6,000. A better look that the usual 1,500-2,000.

Spot on Jardine, I always liked the idea of WAFL Finals double headers that were tried in the 80's. As you say its a better look to have 6000 there than 3000.

Presentation wise as TV product, the WACA would be far superior , a fantastic playing surface, a well kept and maintained outter, and very comfortable stands ans seating, great lighting to boot!

Still a few issues to be sorted out an hopefully Common Sense will prevail.
The big negative is the Decision by CHN 7 not to show WP games because of 9 Sponsorship.

It is a while off yet so a lot could change e.g
9 drops off as a WP sponser?
9 has the Cricet TV rights and the WACA is set up for their channel in camera's etc
A new contact is tendered for and CHN 9 gets it and allows EP to wear the tiny 7 on their jumpers if 7 still sponsers EP which I think they will because of alignment with Eagles.

Now what I cant get my head around is wearing the logo on the jumper is not a problem. Ok agree the advertising signs at Joondalup are HUGE. and it could be a good arguement not to show games there but no reason why they could not show WP at away grounds where the signs are missing... as an example of the signs at Joondalup

Attachment ScoreboardChn9Joondalup3.jpg not found

and

Ok fair call by 7 in this respect but not at away games.
The WACA would not have a predominent 9 Scoreboard if any

This brings the point up and I know I am jumping the gun but the SCOREBOARD AT THE WACA would have to be updated or 2 scoreboards at the ground. Assume the Footy Scoreboard would be electronic. Obviously the score board for the cricket would not be suitable.
I cant remember what they did at the WAFL/AFL games at the WACA but from memory they DO have electronic scoreboards on the boundry.

It would totally unreasonable and unrealistic to NOT have WP games included due to their huge following. I realise I am jumping the gun and a lot could change by the start of the 2018 season but it is food for thought

Just a bit more input and hopefully it will all be resolved and common sense prevails or on the other hand the problem wont exist.

Some good and bad memories from the WACA but great to see some of the players running around back then.

1994 Preliminary Final WP V EF ... Not a good night for WP. I was at this one
Crowd around 12,000

EF went on to win GF...

1994 Grand Final League Sun, 25 Sep 12:00 AM Claremont 10.10 (70) East Fremantle 13.13 (91) Patersons Stadium, Subiaco Oval (2011) 17,594

1991 State of a Origin.... Great night again especially with the WA WIN

Last of the State of origin games from memory

1991 - Western Australia 19.13 (127) d. Victoria 7.9 (51) at the WACA

And one we would rather forget

1987 State game v SA 1987 State Game South Australia 18.16.124 d Western Australia 9.9.63

Enjoy

The scoreboard issue at the WACA probably ranks low in terms of the subject. For the record the cricket scoreboard worked fine when football was played there, it wasn't a problem and wouldn't be a problem. The old cricket scoreboard at the Adelaide Oval is basically the same and they use that at AFL games there today.

I know some people are against the WACA being used, but its tiresome seeing the WAFL stagnate in stature, due of course to the useless buggers running everything. But I think the WAFL needs the WACA and the WACA needs another tenant desperately. It is a good fit because Subiaco Oval will not be an option for anyone in the near future. The WACA has a history of football too, given Perth played there right up until the late 1950's. Its not like football is new there. They have grassed banks behind the goals at both ends, which is essential. And great viewing stands & shelter for the wet days. Too me I see the venue as a lifeline for the WAFL, I really do. The issue of bar & food takings for WAFL clubs is something I am sure can be worked out. For it to work there would be control rights for home teams, to protect & justify such sacrifices. I am sure things would be worked out there before anything goes ahead.

I am still of the opinion love it or hate it, that West Coast need to have their own reserves side in the WAFL with an Eagles identity. Like the Crows have done in the SANFL. And Fremantle take over Peel in an identity sense like Port Adelaide in the SANFL. Get all these things right including the WACA deal, and the WAFL could actually get a profile and a prominence again. If anyone can tell me another way to gain such things, Id love to hear it. Discounts on a bucket of chips and free entry for uni students is just a load of fluff. Simply enhance the profile of your product and everything else falls into place. Its as simple as that.

The WA public can view the city from all angles of the metro area, and always see those lighting towers of the WACA. Perhaps people will not only think of cricket when they see this from afar, but they may also start thinking of WAFL football being played there every week during the winter season. Its publicity money cant buy, and under the current day circumstances we need to attack such an idea with some positivity.

Spot on Jardine... Bottom line is it would be like a breath of fresh air
and put some life back into the WAFL. Ok some wont like it but gotta do something
I hope it all comes to fruition..
In 2018 it might be to late... I cant see a problem with kicking it off a lot sooner... Even the 2016 Season.

I realise my comments re scoreboard are a minor issue mate but just threw it into the conversation as I did with the Sponsorship CRAP going on.
Public transport is another issue but easily resolved ... they have the CAT buses I think that run from EP to Central... I caught a bus from Booragoon and it terminated in EP but I think those days are gone.
Friday night clash with Trots but always the option of Day games.. or Sat night
But as you say the night games would be brilliant because of the ambience under the lights.

Small minor issues that will be easily sorted out if it happens.

Where does one start Bazza? I fully agree that provided there is enough under cover seating at the WACA, not at the moment, the GF would be better to be played at the WACA than the new stadium. With respect to double headers what percentage of supporters would be interested in double headers? My guess is not too many. I suspect what would happen is that those who were there for the first game wouldn't stay for the second game and those interested in the second game would turn up late in the first game. Another problem with double headers is the impact it would have on the lower grades and those supporters who want to see the lower grades.

I would argue that a well attended game at Basso would be superior to a similar crowd at the WACA.

Another problem with respect to neutral games at the WACA is the impact on revenue on clubs in terms of bar and gate takings, catering etc.

Admittedly I haven't watched much of the Ch 7 coverage but from comments I have heard and read about the Ch 7 coverage is that it is all about who had, is or will play in the AFL. The WAFL per se is purely peripheral.

So if Peel were to play a night game at the WACA how many Peel supporters would be in attendance? Obviously the WACA lights are vastly superior to any of the WAFL grounds' lighting.

I would also argue the premise that more people would attend a Swans' home game played at the WACA than would attend the game at Basso.

Finally I am no sure that games played at the WACA would particularly financially reqarding.

The wafc will not decide anything until they are clear on what deal they are getting at the new stadium, and rightly so considering footy will be the MAJOR money spinner for it. Barnett the control freak can't handle somebody other than HIMSELF actually having some say in this.

You talk of CONTROL FREAKS TOG

I suggest the WAFC are the CONTROL FREAKS and it is good to have someone like Barnett to put them in their place..

Ok agree I am not happy with Barnett myself but I have found I have come to reconsider as long as he sticks to his decision and make the CONTROL FREAKS at the WAFC be made to account for their incompetance and Financial mismanagement when it comes to WA FOOTY
