David Wirrpanda & Kane Pettifer deserve a mention Grump!

Pettifer has already been mentioned further up by Mudlark but Wirrpanda, there's one for you.

Retired from AFL football and had just about every WAFL Club chasing him.
Decided to return to East Perth, his first aligned Club and they built a Membership drive around him.
Played just a handful of games because he always seemed to be unavailable due to his "other" commitment of dancing on TV.
In the games he did play, apparently he struggled to get kicks because he was just a tad overweight (fat?).
Drifted out of WAFL football the same year and I have yet to hear an East Perth supporter say he was missed.
I believe he ended up at North Beach Amateurs under David Hynes but I have no idea if he actually played any games with them.

sounds like Adam Lange outer who from memory was more than handy at Swans...maybe our resident bogan supporters can confirm.

Agreed, Pettie Four was just useless, Wirra was just past it but I was there in the rooms when he played his first game as a 16yr old and so he will always be a bit separate.

Mark Olsen was a dud signing for EF from memory, sorry MO but you were farking useless, beats me how you kicked any goals for SD in your hey day!

.....Nifty Neville Fields came over with a big VFL reputation.....past his prime from memory and played like a has been..... Mark Norsworthy came over from SA still in his prime with a big wrap, yet only offered a squeak........

Royce Vardy at East Perth.

And didn't they also have a big name recruit from Brisbane/Darwin I think? Jason Roe from memory.

Adam Lange was a great player for Swans.

Jason Roe went from starting FB for Brisbane to couldn't get a kick in the WAFL...

A bloke came to Swans in 80 or 81 - Darryl Sutton from North, had a huge rep and missed a few games due to a clearance dispute, didn't get a kick and went back at the end of the year

Outer can't talk at the moment BC due to the fact that his tongue is so firmly embedded in his cheek..... :P

1981 it was Mark. He was terrible. There was another guy who came from Victoria (1976 I think) Stewart Magee, who was appointed Captain coach at Swans but didn't have much of an impact as a player or coach.

Yeah Sutton didnt live up to the expectations or hype thats for sure, another one of those "VFL stars" who found the WAFL of the 70's & 80's a little tougher than they expected!
Tyson Lane ex Coll/Foots was another ES flop like Sutton, Magee, Richards.
Hopefully the club has learnt now to not bother with those "big name, big dollar" Vics & put most of our efforts into our own juniors & if we do need to look outside look for some gems from outside the Big League eg- Geappen, Twomey, Robinson, Blackaby et al
