Woke up this morning to a beautiful sight. And what a great day for a WAFL Grand Final.

Magic day, no AFL to contend with, a completely unhindered build-up with the one & only rare chance to put our big day on the stage.

I can feel it now. The usual deflating weekend after the AFL Grand Final like we have today, but with the added bonus of another weekend of footy that would allow the people to actually give the WAFL a second thought for a change.

But alas, we gave up this chance to jam our GF in between two AFL Preliminery Finals and the chaotic hype surrounding it. Hence another flop for the WAFL.

Have a think about it people, and think of today. How good would it have been?

:cheer:

But that would be promoting the wafl jar dine. The eagles and dockers don't want to promote what has now become a rival competitor to them in the cutthroat world of big business afl

quite true. how pathetic the eagles & dockers seeing the wafl as a rival? That is akin to a great white shark being afraid of a herring. its that ridiculous.

I might add, a WAFL grand final today would rate its socks off on TV. I think the TV audience state wide would be substancial . Very little sporting opposition if any at all. The NRL GF is tomorrow, the soccer doesn't start until next week. No brainer.

Spot on Jardine. Just a no brainer but beyond the limited mental capacities of the WAFC it seems.

I see the WAFC is advertising for new commissioners. Please no more spivvy ambulance-chasers or boring accountants. How about someone who knows one end of a football from the other for once instead of these toadies and fops who get their jollies from big noting themselves rubbing shoulders with footballers.

Agree with your idea Jardine. The fact that it would be played on a Saturday rather than a Sunday would help boost attendance also.It would tend to be self promoted which would have to be a hell of a lot better than we currently get from the inept efforts of the WAFC.

Jars I have also been calling for the WAFL GF to be played on this weekend for decades where there is no AFL to compete with, the cricket hasnt started yet, spring racing is yet to really get going with the major races and no one really cares much for NRL outside of NSW/QLD anyway, no soccer/rugby & there is a big void this weekend it is a no brainer to change dates as we are in a very saturated sporting/entertainment marketplace with limited exposure for the WAFL currently.
Just farkin move it starting in 2015 WAFC FFS!

The AFL do not want Grand Finals to be played after theirs. They want The AFL GF to be the climax of the season for the entire football code. This is why SANFL no longer has their very successful October GF.

October grand finals were played in the WAFL up to 1965. This was of course when the WAFL was a elite competition and there was limited coverage of the VFL on TV. Climate wise it makes more sense to start the season in Mid April and finish in October because March can be an absolute stinker weather wise and saturday afternoon games have often been played in temperatures approaching 40 degrees at that time of year whereas October is much milder. The other consideration with all this is that if the WAFL go to a final five next year we will go back to a 4 week finals series rather than 3 weeks as it is at the moment. So this will extend the season by a week anyway

From my understanding is the top 5 format will be introduced in the 2015 season. This is designed to increase revenue. And if the story is true, the commercial television is wanting an 18 qualifying round season which will be a cost saving. Which is basically the core and will mean a shorter season than previous ones.
Personally speaking, a 21 qualifying round season would be better than 18.It would do no harm to start the season later and then it would finish later. As the weather is still hot in March.

True WAG and others yesterday was brilliant...Today now so good :( But agree with your points. Lets be honest it is bloody Hot when the season starts if the are going to shorten the home and away Why not start later and finish later?... Would give the guys a better break etc etc.
Food for thought
