What about Brad Shine?
I only say that as he was a similar time frame and I 've worked with the fella for quite a few years. Tough bastard!

Kids try to emulate their heroes, I was no different... I painted my bike helmet like Phils and kicked over my shoulder at right angles for hours on end whereas Bakes came and did a coaching clinic at Lancelin Primary when I was 7 or 8, he was already my hero back then but after he had a kick to kick with me it was set in stone and is still my favourite player ever, all class, was strong above his head considering his height, with silky skills on both side of the body which is why I still rate him a slightly better player than Hirdy with both shining brightest in the big games....I was devo when he left the game too early but that is part of the beauty of Leon Baker...he came he saw he kicked their ass won 4 flags and disappeared on his own journey. Would love to meet him one day just to say thanks. As for your old work colleague Brad Shine, he played the game like few others, a bloody madman at times in terms of hardness and I guess I just didn't have enough brain cells missing nor the courage required to emulate his deeds
