I saw on my Facebook feed from a WAFL news account that Bootsma will request a transfer from South to Peel and will be a 10 point player. I thought the AFL sides couldn't recruit from outside their zone?

EDIT: source was a West Australian news article.

Mate it's all smoke and mirrors with this WAFC....the dorks have found a new way to recruit via their WAFL reserves team...recruit talented players from around the country, hide them and then pick them up in the draft....fckn cheats!

I agree Freezin but Underdog has a good point. The 2 AFL host clubs were not supposed to be able to recruit outside of their zone. They are making up the rules as they go. If his dad and brother were at EP does that mean he would have been allowed to join them and make them even stronger. This comp is a joke.

There was never a rule that the 2 aligned clubs weren't allowed to recruit. That is just what a certain president said to make his backdown from boycotts/forfeits to nothing look ok.

Both clubs can recruit based on where they finish on the ladder and with wafc permission. The guide is (but not necessarily a hard rule)
7th to 9th - 2 players
4th to 6th - 1 player
1st to 3rd - o players

But lets face it, would anyone want him in their 22?

NO the rule was that they cannot recruit from outside their zone, only thing is that the date this kicked in might have been July this year, there was a date this kicked in.

There was a story in the west earlier this about the wafc giving Peel permission to recruit 2 players this year because of their poor finish last year. It has taken them 4 months to find the first one.

Peel were allowed to recruit 2 blokes from outside their zone in 2014

www.wafootball.com.au/news/2873/2014-waf...d-regulations-update

Based on this recruitment and assessment process, Peel Thunder Football Club has been granted approval by the WAFL Advisory Committee, WAFL Management Committee and WAFC Football Affairs Committee to recruit two (2) Non-district players for the 2014 season.

A wider review of the overriding principles will be completed at the conclusion of the 2014 season and each subsequent year for the five-year term of the agreement. The ongoing assessment of the playing lists for each season will also form part of that wider review.
