Hi guys

Looks like I'll be doing an article each week on the WAFL website providing a statistical preview of each game for the upcoming round. Was just wondering what sort of information you guys would like to see in the preview. Things I have in mind include - current streaks vs each other, record over last 5/10 meetings, meetings in relevant round/date and highlighting player performances in recent games ie. Luke Blackwell averages x possessions in last 3 games v Subiaco...

Let me know any suggestions and I'll try incorporate in my articles.

Cheers all

Ric

Hate to dampen it Ric but most of the stuff you speak of is in the Footy Budget under each game list..Do you do them?
Ok it could be a good read if you want to know before Saturday but the Budget is usually online on Thursday.

Something that has always interested me but could be a big call is in what qtrs the sides actually perform the best.. We have sides that play well but always lose games in the last qtr and they dont come home well.

I have found WP after half time or 3rd qtr have a habit of not firing. Even though lately they seem to have over come that problem.

Clutching at straws now but Free kicks is always a contentious issue and a record of Free kicks for against for each individual club would be something of interest.. (gee are EP really ferals? for example

Like the idea of player performances as in each game a player performs differently except for maybe a couple of high possession getters.
Now is this because the club we are playing this week always put the same man on this player and he can hold him whereas other weeks the guy shines and it is because of a matching up problem?

We have ruckmen who get 40 hitouts... great but how many of those were effective? Same with players who have 30 plus possessions how many of those are effective... Now I know the clubs statisticians actually keep a record of that or used to.. Big call on that one Ric and it would be a huge job to get them on paper for a weekly article

So much that can be done... In baseball they have an error count for a team eg a guy misfields etc etc and the club has a error put up. If a team gets a lot of errors they usually lose. Now in Footy we see a lot of errors which includes turnovers and no real count is given in stats?

1%'s or one percentors.. we have the guy who seems to be in everything and you comment on what a great game he had.. But when you look at the stats he has had low possession rate? I saw it at Last WP reserves game where a couple of guys busted their guts and led by example and I reckon they were brilliant yet when I looked at their stats later they had very few. I dont care what people say or what the article below says I think 1 percentors turn into 100 percentors and creat goals that win games.. Have seen it so often.. A second effort by a player that gives him possession and the club moves forward and usually a score results just from that one 2nd effort.

Mate just do as you suggest as I have gone outta bounds with my comments and not easy. At least you run a site that deals in Stats and should be able to gleen something from them..All the best and will be looking forward to your article..on the WAFL site

I have noticed that one of the commentators on WAFL WORLD has quoted your stats a couple of times.. The other commentator stated he must of done a lot of research until the Guest said - Yeh WAFLFOOTYFACTS.. :) But hey why not great to see them using your after game stats as of interest to everyone

Here is an interesting website that might give you a idea or two

Hi Ric,

One thing I enjoy reading on the AFL pages is the score and a brief synopsis of the game for the last time the teams played. It would be good if you could incorporate this into your report ( if you have the space of course)

cheers

Mike

What about ins and outs from both games.. can make a big difference

e.g who is out from the side last time they met and who is in

Should be reasonably easy as team lists on WAFL site and your Ric
