Fans here in the West are apathetic and have been conned into watching AFL unfortunately, plus it helps they are on 7Mate each week, that exposure is what is getting people through the gate, why cant 7 do the same here?

They probably advertise it as well and don't charge exorbitant prices to get in.

Its roughly the same admission fee..$15 isn't over the top anyway, its still a quarter of the price of AFL admission and IMO a more exciting product of Aussie rules played the way it should be played

That figure of 3500 would be about right.

Remember a fair few would have stayed home and watched the Coll v Ess game before heading off to the Dockers game.

The big numbers of derbies are long gone I'm afraid.

I certainly would not expect anything from silly old 7!!
They cannot even put a decent Wafl segment on their 'so called' sports bulletin! They can find plenty of time to report on and show video highlights of other sports like the racing, golf, motor sports etcetera. But the local footy scores get flashed up on the screen for 10 seconds! Whatever you do, don't blink or sneeze at the time otherwise you'll miss it.

What do you expect from them. Even though it might horrify most on here, the WAFL is not the major AFL code in the state. How many state league comps get the same media exposure as the WAFL? Soccer? Hockey? Basketball?

Also its almost a done deal, WAFL on 7Mate next year. Just a few clubs holding out not wanting change, surprise surprise.

Barney how does having it on 7mate increase attendances compared to having it telecast on the ABC? Secondly, what conditions are associated with having it telecast on 7mate? Thirdly, what is the financial arrangement with respect to having it telecast on 7mate?

Thats about the norm now, actually we have had lower than that

only foundation day gets well above that.

SANFL has always attracted bigger crowds than WAFL even in the hey day, there are all sorts of reasons for this, but the WA footy public becmae full blown AFLers about 15 years ago, once the dockers came in it was good night WAFL, then more and more AFL came to live TV and it became all consuming, I cant belive the young guys at work , they are obsessed with AFL, dream teams, super coach, talk endlessly about it to the enth degree.

Why would any more pople watch the game on Seven as opposed to ABC. Bigger issues for WAFC to consider.
