Looking forward to a big day at Bassendean on Friday, both with paying respect to our veterans and current soldiers as well as remembering people who have paid the ultimate price in the service of our country. It will be a solemn day but we will enjoy the footy as well and the Swans v West Perth game promises to be an excellent encounter. It will be like a reunion with potentially 4 ex Swannies (Kraks, Adams, Potente, Spencer)playing for the Falcons and there are a number of ex West Perth players in Swans ranks as well.

Before we start looking at the game though I was thinking about a point that Cardy made earlier in the week about the timing of this years game. He was saying that as an ex serviceman he was catching up with his old mates on ANZAC day as many people do. This will prevent him from attending the game on Friday and I wondered if there were a lot of ex service people who barrack for the teams playing on that day who would be in a similar situation and therefore miss out on seeing their teams.

Easy to look at it in hindsight but I wonder if the WAFL could have just scheduled all the games for Saturday this year. You could still do all the ANZAC ceremony, it would just be on April 26th and you would then swell the crowds with all the ex service people who would enjoy a day at the footy. Also there is an AFL game on in Perth on ANZAC evening so I think this may take some away from the WAFL games.

If ANZAC day falls midweek then sure, play games on that day, but on this occasion it is only a one day difference. Just a thought and would be interested in others opinions.

To be honest Mike , I think the whole day & round has been planned poorly and without any idea or clue
This should have featured both Derbies , another one in the Western Suburbs Subi v Claremont and then the Eastern Suburbs Perth v Swans
The fixturing is a shambles at best - done by idiot bigots as we see clearly these days
But then I suppose what do I expect really

They seem to cope pretty well with the Ess v Coll game in the AFL, and West Perth had it last year at home this year is our turn and I know of a few ex servicemen who said they could easily attend if they wanted as by 2.45pm all the formalities are well and truly over, Cardy could just catch a train as he is probably complaining because he will be too pissed. I would think the whingers would be in the minority Mike

I'm a diehard Bombers fan but will be pressing the record button on the day so I can attend the Anzac game at Basso. Should be a beauty, go Swans!

My point of view is that if it was on Saturday it would get the normal crowd as this weekend the ammo's are playing. The old boys probably couldn't handle 2 days out in a row either. Playing it on Friday gives everyone a great chance to get on down if they really want to.
I'll make my way down at half time of the Dons v Pies and watch the 2nd half up stairs.
It's a putty that the wafc have not promoted this anywhere! Not that I've seen anyway.

I have quite a few Swans and WP friends who to be honest, don't know there is a game on Friday. Will any of them attend ? I doubt it which is a blight on those who don't promote it. This game 30 years ago would have got 20,000 but if they get 3,000 that would be about right. It actually should be a great game and well worth watching. If I wasn't going away for the weekend Id probably go have a look myself.
