Who prepares the fixtures? They're a dogs breakfast. It isn't hard to design fixtures where a team's opponents are evenly spaced and home/away games alternate. Perth played away this weekend. West Perth played at home. Next weekend West Perth play Perth in Joondalup. Why?

how about Swans. Bye, Eagles Reserves, Freo Reserves
Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

The bye is purely down to the WAFC's abortion .... the Centrelink Mandurah Thunder ..... Knapton has deliberately fixtured Swans against the AFL teams due to the stand against them (including the hilarious scoreboard hijinks)

Just another WAFC AFL clone dickhead really

I doubt he'd deliberately do that Southerner. If so that's pretty pathetic and extremely petty. The bye causes a lot of fixture problems and means that at times teams could play each other within the space of 5 weeks. Teams also want to play specific opposition sides that get good crowds and mean more revenue for the club.

I thought Swans put in a bloody good effort yesterday.

I put a post on about the fixtures a few months ago. Each club should play each other twice, then from rounds 19-24, the top four sides from the previous year play each other for a third time, while the sides who missed out on the finals the year before play each other again.

Just a bit of sarcasm mate - I probably should have made note of that ;)

No-one really understands the byes .... or why we have the multiple bye situation where occasionally a team will have 2 weekends in a row not playing - bloody ludicrous

There is a simple mathematical solution. Round 1 is a replay of the previous years finals. Then four weeks where each of the previous years finalists have one bye per round. Then eighteen weeks where each team plays each of the other teams twice. Once at home and once away. Only one round of multiple byes and that's round one. Every other round would have just one bye. Or, of course, revert to an even number of teams somehow. It'll be very interesting to see how the SANFL goes this year.
