The WAFL has taken a leaf out of the A-League PR guide and has introduced incentives for clubs to recruit marquee players on to their squads from 2014.

An allowance of $10,000 has been made for the inclusion of one player who the League agrees will bring value to both the club and the WAFL, both on and off the field.

The WAFL is hoping that clubs will be able to attract players with AFL experience or someone who has achieved high individual honours in another State league.

Each club is allowed to list only one marquee player each.

Clubs also have an extra $10,000 in their budgets to offer to veterans who have played over 100 league games for their club (or AFL games if they are returning to their club of origin). This figure has doubled to $20,000 per club for the coming season.

These allowances were among several rules laid out by the WAFL yesterday and agreed upon by the nine clubs, in preparation for the 2014 season.

Of course this season sees a massive change to the competition, with the AFL and WAFL partner club process coming in to effect.

Fremantle will see its players aligned with Peel Thunder and West Coast will be tied to 2013 runner-up East Perth.

The new rules included some guidelines for their recruiting as well. The WAFL has made it extremely difficult for these two clubs to recuit any high-profile players.

The partner clubs must apply to have any non-district, interstate, non-district AFL delisted players listed with it.

However, all 40 players who were listed with the Royals and the Thunder as at July 1, 2013 are deemed to be local district players and are allowed to stay with their respective clubs, no matter where of their background of club of origin.

And due to its position on the ladder in 2013 (9th with a 3-17 record) Peel has been granted permission to recruit a maximum of two non-district players for the 2014 season

Interesting. Hopefully the Dee's can use the extra $10k to recruit a key forward and the extra $20k to recruit and former Demon that gets delisted from the AFL that still has something to give.

an extra two out of zone signings for Cockburn Thunder which contradicts the alignment itself .... if all AFL listed players get on the paddock just how the fark do these "extras" get a game .... total sick farking joke from those dickheads in there .... have an agreement and then just alter it at will ????? disgraceful decision the treacherous scum

Agree they had their win with all the Dorker players going to Peel so they don't need any other hand-outs surely ???

WAFC are a kidding themselves and have wand in hand. Peel can now have recurits and WCEP cannt. Thought rules were set and would be looked at at the end of 2014?
