From what I have been advised by players I believe that most are on 2 year contracts, this and next.

In talking to some folk associated with the league team Smith and Johnson (the big talking points) are not going anywhere, for the time being at least.

I also understand that whilst the team list from Mike is deplete of EP players the likleihood of more than 10 weagles players being in the team on any given game day is very remote. Apprently worsfold and nesbitt made this point very early on!

Given worsfolds tenure at the weagles is up in the air that may change.

I will look forward to the developments and the machinations that will obviously develop.

Final point, if Samps wants another go at league football and his body is better then every team should be making an offer, the Tiggers and EF perhaps not!

That team is scary mikeh. The only thing that may weaken it is the 5 draftees that come in next year and aren't quite ready to play WAFL league but still have to play. I always used to hope that Freo or WC would draft our Swans players but the thought of Dayle Garlett playing against us will make me cry on draft day if his name is called out by the WA AFL teams.

Dont think the East Perth/Eagles can keep either Smith or Johnson in 2014, think
there salary cap will seriously be checked when the alignment takes place, the VERY
large payments they both are currently receiving wont happen under the eagles, local
money clubs or the SANFL would be more likely.

Grump if you believe anything that Worsfold and Nesbitt have committed to I have a slightly used Bridge and Opera House for sale. Good scenic views of a harbour: going cheap.

waflrules - you were correct. In past years it was preferable for the Dockers (better choice) and the Eagles to draft the Swans' players. That is certainly not the case. It is far better longterm for the players to go out of the state. This will prevent them from playinbg against us in the short term; and long term, if they are delisted, they are more likely to come back to Swans.

If they stay in Perth and have a reasonable period at the Dockers or the Eagles, the chances of them returning to Swans after their AFL career would be infinitesimal.

Never said I beleive it swan just that they made a point of putting this in the conversations.

I reckon that EP will no longer exist by 2018 when the Weagles move their alignment to another venue and club

So I picked out what I considered was West Coasts top 22 and then shuffled the others around and here is what I came up with

Backs Jamie Bennell Wilson Adam Carter
H/B Ash Smith Brennan Butler
Centre Cripps Hutchings A Selwood
H/F Newman McGovern Hams
F Lycett McInnes Dick
R Sinclair Rosa Lee
I/C Mcginnity, Tunbridge, Colledge, Morton

So only 1 non WCE player amongst this lot (Lee). Now before you all jump on me, yes I concede that this number of WCE players will never take the field for East Perth as there will always be injuries in AFL, but even so you will still get a very high percentage of these guys playing consistently for East Perth and West Coast will not want any of them to play reserves footy unless they are young developing players.
So if you were an established East Perth league player like Johnson, Smith, Clutterbuck etc, you would be crazy not to look at other opportunities as I am sure they don't want to be playing reserves footy in the WAFL waiting for Eagles players to get injured?

I DOUBT THIS IS A GOOD GUIDE.AT LEAST 5 OF THESE GUYS ARE CROCKS WHO HARDLY PLAYED THIS YEAR THRU INJURY/ISSUES.THAT LISTS INCLUDE BENNELL.MCGOVERN,COLLEDGE,SINCLAIR PLUS NEWMAN.THESE AREN'T EVEN FIRST GRADERS.TO TOP IT OFF THE OLDTIMERS BUTLER,KERR,EMBLEY,SELWOOD AND THE NIC NAT SAGA.THE CLOSEST GUIDE IS WHAT YOU SEE IN THE LOCAL PAPERS AND IT HAS BEEN AVERAGING 10-12.
EVEN IF ALL PLAYERS ARE AVAILABLE THIS WOULD BE A PRETTY POOR SIDE FOR BALANCE.TWO UNDER SIZED BACKMEN AS KPD. A PRETTY ORDINARY SLOW MIDFIELD AND SEEMS TO HAVE TOO MANY FORWARDS ON THE INTERCHANGE.I AM ASSUMING THE EAGLES WILL AT LEAST DRAFT 5 MAYBE MORE.A FEW MAY PLAY RESERVES FOR A WHILE DEPENDING HOW GREEN THEY ARE.

If the alignment was in right now this would be the state of play between EP and WCE this week

25 players travel to play Pies
10 players currently on the official injury list

This leaves 5 senior players and 4 rookies to play at EP

Some rookies will play ressies leaving about 6 or 7 to play league.

I reckon 6 or 7 middle tier players will move from EP to other clubs next season. Johnson could be a top liner that moves on given he probably won't be 1st ruck with Lycett and Sinclair both at EP next season.

I think you are pretty close to the mark there CV. Who moves on may depend on the types of Eagles players who come in. Like you said, someone like Johnson may consider that his opportunities will be limited and move on

Despite my "team" above ( which was half tongue in cheek). I reckon that on average about half the East Perth team (10 - 12) will be made up of Eagles, may be less if they get lots of injuries. Given that rookies can also be mature aged, we might have to wait and see who West Coast put on that list as they may not be that happy with them playing reserves.

The other thing that East Perth may have to contend with next year is the lack of continuity in their team as different players shuffle in and out of their team determined by Eagles selection. May make it difficult to develop a team structure with chopping and changing players and also coping with the demands of West Coast wanting to play a certain player in a certain position.

If you think they won't exist by 2018, how can the alignment with the Eagles have been a good idea?
