Have mixed feelings a about this and West Coast and Dockers aside not sure I would like to see this happen. A lot of taxpayers money has gone into this project including people who will most probably never use it. We have a situation at Joondalup where Venues West run the Arena and the money goes back into WA State coffers. Now I feel with the outlay involved in this would at least put some money back into the State.

Most of the cost is to the WA taxpayer I have not heard of the AFL and the WAFC throwing large amounts of cash into this project. Burswood is going to make a killing from it as well due to its location etc. Not much if anything from them either.

Could be wrong your thoughts welcome.

Cardy what Nisbett was talking about in that article has nothing to do with the Burswood Stadium running. He was commenting on AFL equalisation after his overseas junket "fact finding mission" to the USA & Canada with Demetriou, McLachlan, Gordon et al talking to those involved with the major sports NFL, NBL, MLB including club owners.

BH are you on the same page? You seem to have a problem reading the story. You say nothing to do with the Burswood stadium and the trip was only a small part of it.. Are you dyslexic?

quote Article headed
WAFC targets stadium role

The WA Football Commission has confirmed it will bid for the right to manage the new stadium at Burswood and wants to start talks with the State Government on the issue.

Cardy if you actually read what I wrote I have said that what NISBETT was talking about in that article had absolutely nothing to do with the new Burswood Stadium management that was the headline, he was actually talking about AFL equalisation!
Although contained in the one article they are 2 seperate stories if you actually read it carefully (eg the Meanwhile at the start of one of the paragraph's)!!
You were the one originally highlighting what NISBETT said remember?
I was just pointing that out to you nothing more, nothing less.
And no I do not have dyslexia, but maybe someone has a problem with a lil too much bourbon before typing on ozfooty at times mate!!

Those complete dickheads at the WAFC should be kept OUT of the stadium - it needs to run independantly as a public asset,, the WAFC should be nothing more than tenants.

Bazza whilst I may not have expressed it quite so colourfully as you I am in total accord with your feelings vis a vis the WAFC. It should be totally independent of any vested interest. Of course, the major tennant will be the AFL games; that does not mean that it should be run by those subservient (i.e. the WAFC) to the AFL clubs.

How will they prop up the WAFL if they don't have stadium income once Subi closed?

Thanks Bazza and Swan42 for your input and that is all I asked for and that was opinions of others. BH you have a ability for twisting my arguments but that is your prerogative. Are you a WAFC stooge, Do you work for the WAFC/WAFL?

Now back to the Topic.. The WAFC ran at a loss in 2012 yet Nisbett found money to got to NY. Business class of course and 5 start accommodation?
He went with the AFL heavy weights so that makes me think the AFL footed the bill? B)

Why - because the WAFC is the License holders of the 2 WA AFL teams and the WAFL clubs and the AFL obviously wants the WAFC in their pocket or as BAZZA said they want them as their PUPPETS :(

This was inevitable and part of the BIG AFL plan to run all state leagues in all states. The WAFC being the sole owners of the WA licenses makes it a priority for the AFL to control this organization therefore controlling WA Footy. :(

The WAFL as a stand alone organization is dead as we know it and the WAFC will follow.

They are well and truly on course to do this.

The sad thing is there is nothing we can do about it :( True WAFL supporters have been thrown to the wolves and bottom line is the AFL doesnt even care.

Hey would been great if the AFL paid for the stadium with some WA government support and Sponsers etc to save the WA Taxpayer a lot of money... SHIT NO that wont
happen Lets let those turkeys in WA pay for it and then we will take it over.

Hawkhawkins there is an interesting premise to your question. A premise I don't necessarily agree with. They AFL clubs will have access to their ticket sales. They will just have to pay for the use of the stadium. Given that the vast majority of the money required to build the stadium is coming from sources other than the AFL and their WA domiciled clubs, it is perfectly reasonable that they don't have control of the facility.

I'm starting to get the feeling the entire sporting edifice of Australian Rules Football will probably collapse due to financial reasons in around 10 - 20 years.

The AFL will go bust and whats left of the WAFL SANFL and VFL will go with it.

Imagine the WAFL/Indian Pacific Collapse of the late 80's that was bailed out by the State Government, combined with the Brisbane Bears, Fitzroy FC, South Melbourne/Sydney collapses, times a magnitude of about 100,000.
