RE READ the article in the first post and Found it confusing but that appears to be the AFL aim? Now if they cant get a stand alone team in the SANFL they will pull all AFL players out of the SANFL Clubs and put a AFL team in the Amateurs in SA which the amateurs are happy about.

Good to see the SANFL putting up a battle but will they win it???

What a dogs breakfast it is.. Interesting comments including this one from a supporter

D of Adelaide, the solution you propose is currently being implemented in the WAFL. Have a look and see the decline of that league already underway. Players walking out of Peel Thunder (Freo's reserves) because they have to give up their league spots to give 18 year olds match practice. So much so that in a recent game an administrator had to pull on the boots so Peel's reserves could field a team. You want that to happen here? Here's some non-conservative thinking for you: NO AFL in the SANFL.

The SANFL will be no better than amateur league in 10 years if they allow Port Adelaide to disappear. The greatest SANFL club in the history of SA footy, won more premierships than any club in Australia and they leave it in the hands of club chiefs to vote them in or out of existence. Getting 500 to a game will be the norm in a couple of years and all these clubs that seem hell bent on getting rid of Port Adelaide might just disappear themselves.

But the WAFL clubs buried their heads in the sand without thought of compromise.

At the end of the day with have to live with each other.

WAFL clubs and the WAFC wouldn't survive financially without the 2 AFL clubs.

That's the reality.

Yep, and that is the bottom line I agree.

we should have let the eagles form their own side, let fremantle align with peel, give the traditional 8 clubs $160,000 per year and have an even 10 team comp.

One question is where have they gone and why aren't they playing league elsewhere, truth is that they were not good anyway, Travers excluded.

I think with Peel the alignment is not the real reason .....

SAMATT should be able to clarify, but don't the SANFL hold all the aces in their setup because they (SANFL AND THE 9 CLUBS) own Football park? The WAFC has its hands tied really

That is my understanding of it. The SANFL owns the land.

So you have no problem with watching your club play either of the two aligned teams or an AFL own team and have players from your club play against you in WAFL games? Having watched Swans players in the past, Embley, Talor and Clark, I fundamentally have a problem with that.

Also, it was reported in the press that one of the two AFL clubs had only THREE players play in the WAFL on one particular weekend; where would the other 19 players come from? Further if only three players from the club played that weekend how can that possibly help in the development of 'team sstructures etc'?

you must understand swan42, i am an east perth supporter.

as of next year I think i have pretty much lost my club. the heart & soul of it at least. Given my position, Yes I would prefer this option any day of the week, month or century.

maybe you have to be in my shoes to understand it. I dont like any of it, but having my club as an untouched east perth playing an afl club would be better than the current arrangement.

I agree Jardine, there was a perfect opportunity to even up the number of teams. That exact scenario was the one they should have used.

The original WAFL clubs would have kept their integrity in tact.

But, I think the WAFC got sick of hearing no, from the WAFL clubs.

The WAFC have a vested interest in the 2 AFL clubs and the clubs sat back and did nothing.

As far as the alignment is concerned the Clubs have got to find a way to remain competitive.

I am not sure that Peel and East Perth will win the next 20 flags.

As for our players? They are not our players once they are drafted, just like getting drafted to an ES club.

Everyone needs to lift their game and hopefully the standard of football will as well.

Exactly right
Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!
