I see that COOKED is actually talking about moving Foundation Day to a permanent summer date....What an absolute goose that would be a shocker for WAFLs one big traditional footy day.

Tell him to bugger off...cannot wait to see the end of WA Labor.

Well yeh it all started with this cancel culture that says aboriginal people are offended so they changed the name from Foundation Day to WA Day and Cooked wants to make it like a mini Australia Day with family celebrations and a carnival type day and it doesn't work in the middle of winter.

I think they are talking about keeping the original date and long weekend where it is but making the celebration of it in the spring. I'm ok with that. To us die hards WA Day is still Foundation Day and that should be celebrated and should not be offensive to the aboriginal people. I don't see aboriginal people flocking to the border to exit WA.

Havent heard it was anything to do with woke aboriginal bs, but being cooked probably the real reason, he is talking about bringing it in line with "eastern states" so what about the weather, we have had this long weekend for over 100 years or more never heard anyone moan about the issue of weather, early june is actually quite often fine for events. most foundation day derbies I've been to have had perfect weather for outdoor events. And yes he definitely wants to move the actual public holiday. Foundation Day longweekend footy was part of a whole host of events in 1979 to celebrate WA 150th...

Foundation Day derbies started with the WA 150 celebrations in 1979 - it took off from there in all honesty
I remember the state government of the time purchased an old recently retired Bus from the MTT and did her up as a tourer for visitors and it had an operational Bar fitted at the back of it
always been a public holiday sort of thing earlier than that

Good one Southy

As can been seen on the Bus originally the entire week was dedicated to WA.

Each day in the lead up was dedicated to theme, there was Arbo Day for Trees kids would plant trees at school , Flower day native and other flowers, shops would decorate with flowers , Pioneers Day, etc...much bigger celebration.

As rightly said the first foundation derby was 1979 for the 150th....
