I watched all but 3 or 4 Colts games of the Demons in 2012, those stats are amazing it didn't feel that bad, and they certainly weren't undisciplined. They finished top 4 too.

I have always had a view that first to the ball and you would get the frees.

I think the DEES have been better at that this year.

Maybe that accounts for the figures.

Swans finished equal top of the ladder with Claremont at the end of the H&A last year (15-5) but were 2nd last on the free kick count for/against??? Are you suggesting DF they were second to the ball & yet somehow still winning???

LaH I am not sure what you are intimating. You don't seriously think that all the teams should have a nett balance of zero.

Nope, not a net balance of zero. But I find it hard to believe that last year Perth were "that" much more undisciplined than all others and this year East Perth are so much more disciplined than the rest. Not from all the matches I've seen anyway.

Complete load of rubbish. If an umpire sees a free he pays it. If he doesn't he calls play on. It does my head in that still so many people complain they get a tough run with umps and the count should be even. Sorry LH but this is a rubbish thread

Sacko and 58S as I consider myself to be able to think logically, it seems to me to be totally illogical what you said with respect to and I quote 'If an umpire sees a free he pays it. If he doesn't he calls play on.' This would mean that the umpires would be continually calling play on all the time other than when he blows the whistle to pay a free kick. Patently that isn't the case.

There used to be a maxim that the more skilled team playing the better football would usually get more free kicks as they would be the team with the ball more often and the umpires tended to protect the ball player. This is patently not the case anymore.

I suspect that one of the mitigating factors with respect to Swans' high free kick against count is that we are in the main a very young team.

What is particularly frustrating is that in all levels of the WAFL and the AFl the umpires miss the most obvious free kick; yet somehow or other they have xray vision and can ping a player for holding the ball when there is a pack pf players and it is impossible to say who is holding the ball. In those circumstances how often does it occur that the player who is awarded the free kick is the player who gets up from the pack with the ball in his hand?

Can somebody tell me when a team kicks it out on the full does that count as a free kick to the opposition? And when a player is caught holding the ball does that go down as a free kick?
