I have just read of the passing of football legend, Jack Sheedy . Very sad news.
Jack was a legend of East Fremantle and East Perth in the WAFL. Not only that,  but a legend of Australian rules, Australia wide.
Thanks for the memories Jack.
Rest peacefully.

I drop my hat to you Jack - what a part of football in , and huge character around , Fremantle you will long continue to be.
Certainly one of the hard nuts without question and the road to the tribunal was quite well potholed from use but a very skillful player
The transfer to East Perth devastated some but brought premierships
Then there was the Pub and that ever present grin
Lots I couldn't fit in here  - 96 bloody shame you couldn't get to a deserved century mate

Sympathy to the big Sheedy clan - he was a bloody beauty

Yes sad news, one of the last legends of an amazing era of footy personalities, and of course Jack Sheedys famous PLYMPTON HOTEL.

R.I.P., Jack, and heartfelt thanks for all you did for football in WA, especially for setting up a grand era for East Perth after years in the wilderness.

All the best to Jacks family.Sad loss for all Western Australians.
323 Games.First Wafl footballer to reach 300 games.
Coach of Wa's winning 1961 Carnival.
15 State appearances for Wa.
AFL hall of Fame 2001
Wafl Hall of Fame 2004.

Jack was in the Royal Australian Navy in WWII.Missed 3 years of Wafl 1943-46.Could of almost made 400 games.
Played 12 games for South Melbourne in 1944.Two seasons for Sydney Navy and won a Flag in 1945.

East Fremantle
Premierships in 1943-47
Captain 1949-50.....1952 to 1955.
Old Easts fairest and best 1943-48-53-55.

East Perth Captain Coach 1956 to 1961
Premierships in 1956,1958,1959
Runners up in 1957,1960 ,1961.
Jack coached the Royals from 1962 to 1964,not playing. That was a rebuild for the Royals .That would contest in 6 of the next 8 Grand finals.By 1964 Ep where back in the finals.
A one off year in 1969
East Perth would finish 3 games clear on top of the ladder. But West Perth would play out of there skin. And win the 69 GF in front of an amazing 51,300 fans..With Perth population of around 500,000.

The Wafl ruled the waves back then thanks to the likes of Legends like Jack Sheedy...EF and. EP teams of the century.

Jack only played half a season for East Freo in 1943 ,his second year of footy. And still won the the Old East F+B
Was 5ft 7 and around 90 kgs
Old school ruck rover.

I remember being at Nan's place one weekend and her saying Jack's shock transfer to East Perth was the reason South lost Steve Marsh to East Fremantle the following year in a virtually identical situation

A quick correction. Jack Sheedy was coach of the WA team. Haydn Bunton Jnr was the captain in his first season in WA.
