The zones have been grotesquely distorted since 1997 when Mandurah were entered the league - long held areas were suddenly lost by a few clubs and yet others somehow never changed
And in some cases there's been a loss of good talent because of this and a lot a Mandurah players have ended up on other clubs' lists due to their sudden alignment which is a bloody debacle really
They shouldn't have many zones and these could be redistributed to the needier or back to original condition
Yep, and we all know who had the final casting vote on that one - Oh the irony.

Spot on DD. Here we go again on the equalisation merry-go-round. Hello. Anybody home at the WAFC? The comps already mimicking the EPL but I see nothing being done to address the structural problems that can better equalise the comp.

The PFC report you refer to on WAFL equalisation strategies makes clear the socio-economic and demographic trends against us in both our metro and country zones. I suspect SD and EP would face something similar, certainly in metro zones, but not as dramatic and sustained as we have faced.

Good on Barra for continuing to advocate. Good to see him at a few games this season as well. But does anybody understand this stuff, or care, at the WAFC? So far, you'd say not.

No salary cap in the EPL champ.

Barras a Perth tragic.

Colts: WP 15.14 - P 0.3. Yes, Covid played a part, but it just highlights the lack of depth, which comes from... you guessed it, rubbish zones. This is an embarrassment. To my club, absolutely, but to the WAFL as a whole. But let's just pretend that sending players to training sessions and board members to trophy nights will solve everything.

Sadly Ted, Perth's league side with 13 players missing, lost to the top team in WP by 1 kick......talk about shooting ones argument of inequality in the foot.....realistically to really empathize that inequality argument of the PFC, their league side needed to lose like their colts did.....they didn't....all the WAFC are going to see is Perth are more then competitive at the senior level.....reigning reserves premiers and PFC losing to the top of the ladder WP by a kick, without 13 of their squad available....great effort by the PFC......

So what, Freeze? We are still second last with games against last year's finalists to come before the half way mark. We will likely be 2-7 at that point. Yes, I was proud of the effort today, but it also illustrates that the only way we can be competitive is to make games low scoring and ugly. We are averaging 65 points per game, after 6 weeks of perfect weather. Finals teams routinely average 80 - 100. We are a lock for second last this year with no good young players coming through.

RL the East Perth inncer city zones going ok atm.Mt Lawley/Inglewood.Mt Hawthorne, Coolbinya add Ellenbrook and Ballajura.+Morley, Bayswater, Noranda.
In year 4 under 10's.Both the MT Lawley and Hawthorne have 3 teams Really good participation numbers in the junior ranks.
Nowhere near the junior numbers running through clubs like Claremont and West Perth. But great to see a pulse in EP metro zone.
We're slowly getting there with the junior clubs GTR,and the league side is on the improve, but a sobering stat on the weekend was the fact that only 50% of the league side were from metro and country zones, where clubs like the Tigers and Falcons are sitting at 90-95%
That’s the telling stat RL and that’s what stands out like dogs balls when I’m at a Perth v Claremont game and I look at where players originated from in all 3 grades. Even at colts level Perth are heavily represented by fringe or reject players from other clubs zones who didn’t make it. Our league and reserves sides are loaded with hand me downs that flatters our performance and helps us be competitive such as todays gallant effort against equal top side WP.

While Freezin is being his usual cheeky self trying to point out we nearly knocked off the equal top side, the reality is we rely heavily on players drafted in from other clubs and some “handy” recruits like Stubbs and Cary from interstate that are far from A grade recruits.

I would love to see a best 25 from each club solely from players zoned to their club. Perth would be stone motherless last by a long long way. We would be the only club without a zoned player on another WAFL clubs colts list.
Get on your bike.

Unfortunately DD, the WAFC won't see that, all they will see is a reigning PFC reserves team and a depleted PFC league team pushing a very good WP side to the last seconds of the 4th quarter.....Perth really needed to roll over in all 3 games and lose by huge margins in each of them, to stir that WAFC inequality slumber mate.

It's obvious PFC zones aren't the best economically, demographically, socially etc...but we are talking about the WAFC here, who have sat back for many a decade doing nothing, as the AFL slowly kills off the WAFL.....

Well DD,if West Perth decided to stay at Leederville in 1994 they still would've won the 1995 premiership,as the new northern suburban frontier benefits, had little bearing in that successful year, but how many they would've won after that is anybody's guess. On the flipside if your mob uprooted yourself from lathlain  and based yourself in Joondalup from 1994 onwards, there is no way on gods green earth you would still be experiencing a 45 year old drought, and  a 1/20 decade head to head record with W.P.                                             I also believe the previous dominant Sharks are victims of the strength of their zone, where their drafted players, unlike Claremont have a strong AFL longevity, and rarely seem to get delisted while the Tigers seem to reap the benefits of returning de listed players like Mitchell. MOUNTFord, Hardisty, etc.

DD realestate demographics have to change Perths metro zone,at some point. Its clearly changing East Perths inner city zone .With young families moving back into those older suburbs
.Its clear there's just not enough young footballers .Playing in Perths metro and country zones.Would love to see participation numbers in all the Wafl zones.

It would be easier to change country zones than metro. There needs to be a geographical connection for the most part between junior clubs and WAFL clubs. (yes, there are exceptions, like Ellenbrook - EP) You couldn't have a kid living in Kinross and training in Bassendean, or living in City Beach and training at Lathlain. Country kids have to move to Perth in any event, so why not reallocate some of them? Claremont have metro zones that keep on giving year after year, across 4 decades. Give Albany/Mt Barker to Perth. Esperance too, or at least to SD.
