Interesting to read in a recent West online article that 5 of the WAFL clubs wanted the salary cap increased to $250k for next season, still down from the pre-Covid cap of $275k. Surprisingly West Perth were one of the clubs wanting an extra $50k in the cap!! must be hard to hear for those still waiting on a payout from the club. Also mentioned that the highest paid player in the WAFL outside of AFL listed players is on $50k, thats 25% of the total cap on one player. Now I've heard a strong rumour as to who that player is but rumours are not fact and it is not a Subi player as many on here might expect. Rumour is he's a former Sandover medalist who doesn't play for a western suburbs team ..... but it's just a rumour

If it is who I think it might be, he is overpaid.

Fisher ended up being pretty important in them qualifying for the finals this year. But yeh he is not the player i would’ve expected (if the rumour is true). I guess what the books show and what players like Bolton, Keitel, Masten etc actually get are two different amounts

I was surprised that Subi were one of the clubs that voted against increasing the salary cap.
Increase it I say, let’s attract the best players.

Think about it. The salary cap is irrelevant to them so raising it would give less financially ‘creative’ clubs slightly less of a disadvantage

I can see why claremont wanted a salary cap increase, how else could they afford Bolton and Fisher.
Subi don’t need to pay top players on the books, that’s why they don’t want the increase

You can't afford to lose Fisher after losing Anderson for the whole of next season and I heard he may not play again.
