Just reading how WA football talent boss Adam Jones  thinks Jye Amiss may be the first WA player to be drafted this year and just wondering what the purpose of his job actually is? What would he actually do day to day all year round? The youngsters are coached by the regimes at their WAFL clubs and their state 18s coaches, the AFL scouts keep a close eye on them, what does Adam Jones actually do? I bet he gets paid well for doing stuff all.

If he was recruited by Gavin Taylor the job description would be something like "do as little as possible, screw the WAFL where you can, side with the AFL at the expense of grass roots footy in WA and keep your snout perpetually in the trough."

His role is actually a very necessary one as he is responsible for an awful lot of the development process, making sure there are trainers, coaches support staff and then tracking players right across the state.

He has the admin role which coordinates all of the talent programmes- State and District, gets coaches, managers, S&C/medical, welfare etc staff in place and managed, deals with high level issues with players/parents/scouts/AFL, manages travel and interstate fixture arrangements, advocates for players etc. Even organising the district talent carnivals is a big job - umpires, venues, WAFL TM interests, fixtures, matching the right clubs to play other similar standards. On top of that he had to know ALL of the kids who might be selected for WA16s - 18s, watch the talent carnival games and colts games, liaise with colts and futures coaches (and most WAFL 15s coaches) about the talented kids in the context of state selection snd AFL scout feedback etc. Overall being responsible for everything that gets a kid from 14s to drafted.

So I reckon that given the breadth of our state his role would be a very full on one.

This is from a Coach involved in the development process at EPFC, thanks to him for the summary.

Thanks Grump, so he's the one who is earning his salary. lets see if we can find at least one more who can justify their bloated salaries.
