The news or rumour that the weagles want to build a facility at Lathlain is old news, I recall some bright spark suggesting this last or o early this year. (and no I am not a 10 watt broken globe)

The thing with it is that It waill take how long to build th new stadium, then how long to build the new facility mmmm lets think about 5 years.

So wher will this lead to , well perhaps the 5 year deal with ep will be lapsed and a new one with PFC put in place so that the facilities are together.

Or EP will move to lathlain to share and operate out of the weagles facility

Or ...... you can add your thoughts but this not another opportunity to shoot the messenger, this abt what do you think will happen if this goes ahead. Nothing or something

Grump, I have also seen a few stories regarding this story some time ago. I just found this article on the net & I would be thinking a similar angle"

Irons Calls for West Coast Eagles to Move to Lathlain

Steve Irons — 10 July 2010

.

Representatives:

Steve Irons.

The Federal Member for Swan Steve Irons is calling for the West Coast Eagles to consider moving to EFTEL Oval in Lathlain.

“Recently, South Perth MLA John McGrath pushed for a new stadium to be built in Burswood, if this is the case EFTEL Oval would be an ideal base for the West Coast Eagles.” Mr Irons said

“Lathlain is the perfect choice as it offers great transport options, is in close proximity to the city and airport and the local community would embrace the opportunity to support the AFL club”,

“The move would also allow the Eagles to re-establish a connection with the local community, and get back to a suburban base,

“Residents in the local area would reap the benefits of living in the area which is home to the Eagles. The residents could look forward to the development of world class facilities, along with the economic rewards of being so close to the home of the West Coast Eagles.

“The time is right to make the move; EFTEL oval in Lathlain has all the qualities any AFL club looks for in a home and much more, plus we have the room to expand which many other WAFL clubs don’t have.”

“As a board member of the Perth Football Club I know the Perth Football Club would welcome the West Coast Eagles to Eftel Oval with open arms. The benefit of having such a professional team as the Eagles located with the Perth FC would be enormous.”

With the support of the WAFL, the Town of Victoria Park and of course the Eagles this could be the most exciting development in the district for many years and with a strong push for a new stadium it is inevitable the West Coast Eagles will need to find a new home to base themselves at. This will give their club certainty and allow them to plan for the next 40 years.

The benefit to local and district community would be a tremendous boost to the south east corridor of Perth but it will require the support of many stakeholders including the State and Federal governments to build a state of the art facility to house one of the premier sporting teams of WA.

Mr Irons said “The members of the Perth FC would need to be assured that this is not a takeover but a sharing of facilities that would enhance every aspect of the Perth Football Club”

I would be surprised if EP had not taken the possibility of West Coast relocating to Lathlain into consideration before entering into the alignment. I could see very little upside to EP being in a temporary alignment of say 5 years, given the detriment it will cause to the club.

I would expect that the Eagles would ultimately share facilities with East Perth if a relocation of some sort were even to take place.

Would a relocation of Subiaco to Lathlain in a ground sharing arrangement with Perth & a redevelopment of Medibank Stadium be out of the equation?

Don't know the answer to that on 'big dog' but I suspect that the moves and other rationalisation processes will develop over the next 12 months, EF/SF ground share, Perth/EP ground share ........ .

The interesting other bit for me is that if the weagles get a training facility will they also have a 'social club' there as well, will the local council undertake the other planned (but rejected) development of the Lathlain precinct. Seems like a lot of water to go under said bridge with this process
