Whilst I don't have a particularly good knowledge of the VFL competition it is my understanding that host club alignments for the VFL clubs have invariably not been successful and generally have resulted in a 'divorce'.

What we had previously in the WAFL where local players remained at their local WAFL clubs and the interstate players were distributed amongst the WAFL clubs in my opinion was the best for the WAFL clubs, local AFL drafted players and interstate drafted players. I cite the case of Michael Walters as a perfect example how the local WAFL club, in this case Swan Districts, was able to get Walters back on track in conjunction with the Dockers. I defy anyone to say it has not been an outstanding success. Interestingly, is West Coast Eagles' current position a reflection on the failure of the host club alignment?
