What a great first round of WAFL footy....best one surely in a long long time...no blow outs, five entertaining spectacles....with a shed load of goals. Even better the affiliates got beaten, kudos to Perth and EF....gotta feel for SD....how many games will they lose kicking 18 goals?....incredible.....and it's obvious despite not getting the 4 points, EP and WP will be finals contenders.

All in all, if the goals keep coming, then surely so will the WAFL crowds, only early days, but could this WAFL season be the most competitive one in a long long time? Great to see and hopefully all teams can play their part in driving the comp forward......why so many goals?

Hard to say why the game has opened up so much Freez. It's the same in the AFL and you wouldn't think one rule change and longer qtrs would be the only reasons. I guess we just enjoy it while we can as I have no doubt some "innovative" coach somewhere will come up with a way to shut it down again into a defensive slog fest where the ball gets kicked every which way except forward.

150 goals in 5 games of footy at an average of 30 goals per game. This compares with 80 in round 1 last year albeit 1 less game, but still its a real throwback to the halcyon days of WAFL footy when 20 goals was not uncommon as a losing score. Its great to watch and long may it continue.

Yep great to see. It's hard to say which rule change has been the main cause. Definitely giving fullbacks an extra 15m of space makes teams trying to lock it in to sit further back to cover the slingshot coast to coast goal the other way.

I think they are more red hot in calling play on now as soon as a player takes a step off the line. In our game yesterday we saw lots of switching play and lots of players finding plenty of space so teams are tending to spread out more and it looks more like one on one footy rather than zone football and mass scrums.

Definitely more attractive and I love one on one contests.

Last year I thought it looked like Tex Walker's career was done and dusted. Now he's suddenly back in his old form. The rule changes have probably been career saving for him and maybe can go in for another 3 or 4 years. The full forward is back?

I only saw the SD vs CL game on the weekend but if that is the standard of WAFL footy going forward then I will be extremely  pleased.
Almost 40 goals kicked, fast free flowing end to end footy, no ugly scrums or flooding/zoning, it was the best game I have seen in many years and that is even though my side lost.
Faith restored in our great game if it continues (and long may it)!
